So I get a text message from my brother today, saying our 2nd bass after two weeks has to work every tuesday. I have worked these kids so hard and long during band camp, they then have had a 10 day break. We come back and it's like no body remembers a good portion of the music. I cannot afford for this kid to miss every tuesday. So here are my options.
1. Have the band director and I talk to the kids boss.
2. Let the kid go and have the 3rd bass double up on parts. (I don't want it to come to this, but they didn't have to pay band fee's so i'd feel less guilty.)

I would say try and talk to the boss about it. Altough, I have a feeling that won't end well. Being in band is a commitment, but sometimes things just get in the way. The kids gonna have to choose if he wants to stick with band, or the job.
Also, that's bad if they already forgot the music. Just because they aren't practicing for 6-7 hours a day now, doesn't mean they shouldn't be practicing, even if only for like 30 minutes, at home during the downtime. In fact, the music should be even better than it was during camp, since it's given them time to rest, and actually dissect their parts.

Believe me brother I know. It's ridiculous, the part they missed the most is just quarter notes!

Geez. I hope you atleast gave them a stern talking to, lol. My instructor would get PISSED if that happened with us.

They got it about the third time. But still ridiculous... I can't make them do push ups anymore, jumping jacks are okay, which sucks. Some news story with a band from Texas, the band director got arrested for making the kids do push ups. I think it is slightly hard to believe, but no telling.

That semi-ridiculous. Unless he gave them like 1000 push-ups, making them do push-ups would actually do some of the kids some good, lol.
Anyways, we usually get laps around the track if we mess around/don't learn the music after the fifth time we've been told.
It's all just for discipline.
