I just got my 14 x 6.5 Elite Phorpous ronze snare. I replaced the head with a Evans Power Dot Reverse. Not quite right yet. May have to try a HD Dry.
What do you have on your Bronze Snares ?
Next up 14 x 5.5 steel, then Bronze
then a reference Brass and my Masterworks 14 x 6 - 12 ply outer 2 plies Tamo, 6 plies Birch, 4 plies maple

I have the 14 x 5 bronze. It's quite a dry-sounding drum for a metal snare, almost not enough ring for my tastes. Therefore I've been using the time-honored coated amb on top and hazy amb on the bottom. I'm also using Puresound 16-strand snare wires. It is both ultra-sensitive and wicked loud.
Unless the 6.5 is wildly different from the 5, I can't imagine using a head with dots or rings--especially the genera dry. To each his own, though.

I heard a reverse dot on a brass Sensitone (which has more ring than the bronze type you have) and it sounded great to my ears. I would agree with drumtechdad that on a bronze shell it would be too much and the Genera Dry is going to be even more extreme. If you want that dry a sound then a metal shell may not be your best bet.

I have the 14x6.5 bronze and love it to death!
I have a coated Remo CS over the stock reso (Amb snare-side). I use two SMALL pieces (maybe 1") of duct tape at opposite sides of the batter head. I currently have the drum tuned to where the reso side is pretty tight (a slight "give" in the center of the head when pressed with my finger) and the batter side is slightly looser than that. The overall pitch of the drum is G.
I get a nice full-bodied backbeat with a dark (compared to steel and brass) controlled ring.
To my ears, the stock coated Amb batter sounded even better, but I use CS's for more durability.

Have you tried the Aluminum? I'm torn between the 6.5x14 Aluminum and Bronze. I've got a 5x14 Supra, so I was thinking of maybe switching it up and going with the Bronze, but at the same time, I'm really liking the sound of the Supra and would love it if it had more body so the Alum might be it. Ahh I'm not sure.
Sorry to the thread starter for hijacking it!

With the 5" I like the sound best with the reso lower than the batter. Reso = A, batter = C or C#.
It's a beast, in smaller venues you can feel the backbeat in your chest. I've got to try the 6-1/2" (the mind boggles) but if I buy more drum stuff right now I'll get murdered. :D

Think I may have to play with it a bit. It is not, that I don't like it I love it. Just, looking for a bit more less ring and a little more bottom end.
Have the Steel 6.5 also.
I think I may have to pick up a 5" in each now. Probably, what I am looking for
I want a wet sounding snare with very, very little ring.

I just got this snare as well and swapped the stock remo batter for a coated G2 and love the sound. If you want to check it out, go to my band's myspace (www.myspace.com/freepaysthesoul) and listen to "never enough." the 14 x 6.5 bronze was used on that song, which we just finished recording this weekend.

Thanks! The G2 fattened up the sound for me, which i really liked. It is a great drum for the money. Good luck!
would the G2 do the same to brass sensi?

yes i relise he has used different snare however they are usualy brass.

I hate that they do not have demo heads in the music store here. **** you got to buy it try it and if it is not what you want then another $20 please. Well I went up and opened up four or five heads just held them up and taped them all and yes the HD Dry and the EC2 jsut bottomed out. I thimk too much. I think I should have went with a 5" . Also I think these heads are best on a wood shell right ?
I am going to get a G2 coated and try that.
