I just sent you a PM, but I'll say it here, welcome to the PDF.

That is a very lovely Dynasty, I'm diggin' the green. I think would have one with chrome hardware over that color if it were me buying it, but the black looks very sexy.

I'll post new pics of my snare when my new bottom head gets in.

Here is ChiaPet's 2008 Phantom Regiment snare; I've copied and pasted everything in his orignal post for you guys.
_____________________________________________
Hello. Look what the cat dragged in early this morning!

To start off, I must say that this drum is a BEAUTY. Pictures do not serve any justice to this drum.
One thing I must tell you is that the laminated shell finish is not actually GOLD or BROWN, it's yellow! That's right! You must see it in person to notice the hint of yellow it gives off.

When I first wanted to buy a used corps drum, I purchased a 2008 GLASSMEN Snare drum but due to Columbus Percussion and one of their Glassmen Representatives, they got my order mixed up and they couldn't sell me the drum because another school had already purchased it. However, I did purchase the drum before the school but since the school bought the whole set, they figured it was easier to let all the drums go rather than one by one. So I was told that my "glassmen" snare would come in about 2 weeks, I ended up waiting a month for it until I heard that it was never going to be shipped in the first place. So then Dynasty apologized to me about the mix up, this and that and offered me two choices. Blue Devils 2008 or Phantom Regiment 2008. Growing up in California, I am in love with the Blue Devils but their drums weren't really that special to me. So I chose the Phantom Regiment snare because well...they did win a Championship and High Drums! So I waited another month and finally..it came!

Now...Pros and Cons of buying used drum corps equipment!

Pros:
Custom Finish and Hardware[Depending on what corps you buy from or brand]
Free drumheads..? [My Phantom drum came with a Black Max and a Falam II already on the drum]
Cheap pricing compared to an exact replica.
HISTORY! The drum comes with DCI HISTORY! CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Cons:
Used [Depending on which Corps or Brand you buy from, gear used by drum corps are known for being abused, heavily used, etc.] I was lucky enough to get one of the better conditioned snares.
Scratches N' Dings [It won't be scratch or dinged free]

Enjoy!

East Central High School, St. Leon, IN. yeah we were the first to get that finish from yamaha. that first pic is from like 2 or 3 days after getting them and the others are from a month ago. if you are into WGI, then we made semi-finals this year in our second year of competing in Scholastic Movement A Class. we almost made finals. our show was Safari: The Hunter becomes the Hunted, if you would have heard anyone talking, we were liked by many. we also have a Concert Open Class that just hasn't been able to make finals the past 2 years after making it our first year of competing in WGI. we will be coming back this winter for our 4th year competing in Concert Open and 3rd year in Movement A. :( :( this is my final year of High School and i will definitely miss Winter Percussion. i hope to make the blue stars snare line this coming fall/winter.

Alright guys, I finally got my bottom head in and got some shots of my drum for you all.

As you can see, the drum is a 14"x12" Dynasty. It's the normal snare, no fancy double snare or modular snare. I've had this baby since 2007 and it has served me well.

I'm currently running Evans heads on both the top and bottom of the drum, Hybrid White and MX5 respectively.

For me choice in sticks I use Innovative Percussion FS-TF Tim Fairbanks signature model. These are the same sticks that the Bluecoats are using this year, I was one of the lucky few to get a pair from the first brick that was sent out at the 'Coats camp last November and I've been hooked on them ever since.

The stand the drum is on is the Pearl S-1000; just a basic drumset stand but it works perfectly for me.

Yeah, I'm auditioning for the Crossmen, Bluecoats, and possibly the Cavaliers. My ultimate goal is the Bluecoats, I'm not chasing a ring, I just want to have a great time drumming and I want to play ridiculous amounts of notes while doing so.

Plus the 'Coats have sweeet unis...so do Crossmen...either way, I'd be happy to be out on the field.

Phantom used to enjoy a reputation among those who dealt in used gear as a drumline who took very good care of their equipment. A friend, who works for a local dealer, has sold several PR drums to schools & individuals and they were all in good shape. These were all some of the Pearl® gear that they used to use.

i could probably try-out for the bluecoats to. i live 5 hours away though from their Ohio camp so i'm not sure. and since Bluestars have their auditions in Indianapolis it's only an hour and half away. i may try both though, just to give me more chance of making it. and if capital regiment's weekend doesn't conflict i may try out there to, that's 2 hours away from me. i just want to be in a corps. it would be awesome.

Yeah it would man. See, 'Coats and Cavaliers do a camp within about 5 minutes of me down in Austin; very convenient.

Yeah! Doug is awesome! It's $400 for the drum and shipping! It's used (I think he said the guy with the green vest's drum), and slightly dinged, but he said he refurbished it himself because he figured it was going out with the whole line package. Instead, they left one... just for me. :D

By the way, I've always been fond of the White Max/Falams II combo, but was curious if using the Falams II Snare Side head would make any difference. I didn't know they made one, and have always used the regular batter head on the bottom.

Falams II Snare side will give you a shorter, crisper snare response.

It's also more difficult to tune.

I know many of them have a special endorsement deal where the get new drums every season, and sell them back. That way, the distributor can sell them, making a great chunk of change for a used piece of Drum Corps history.

As for WGI lines, I know RCC gets new Dynastys every other year or so, and wallpaper them between seasons. 2006-2007 were the same, and I think 2008 might've been also.

RCC get's them roughly every other year; it largely depends on if the drums fit the show or not. For instance, 2008's drums were black hardware with a grey countertop color, but in 2009 they just covered the drum in black fabric to make it tribal. The 2006 drums were black with black hardware and then in 2007 they covered the drums white and but kids foam stickers on them to match the childrens theme....you get the idea. If you look at RX, or even MCM, they get new drums every year to specifically fit the theme of that years show (I don't think RX's blue and red drums would have looked good with the "Touch" show of 2009).

As for DCI, it varies from corps to corps. Most Pearl corps get new drums every year (SCV, BK, BAC, etc), some Yamaha corps get them every year (Cavaliers, Crown) and some Dynasty corps, or former Dynasty, got them every year (BD, PR). Usually they do a two year thing, like with Yamaha and the Bluecoats or Crossmen, but it all depends on if the drums fit the show theme.

I used a white max and a clear ambassador marching snare side and it sounds sweet. I dare say even better than my Ludwig with the awesome mylar heads. I don't have it cranked up to floor tile tension though. Yes, Doug was a great rep to deal with. One heck of a sense of humor too! He was a Cavaliers Bassline member - 2002-2004 I think. Good guy.

I don't have it cranked up to floor tile tension though. Yes, Doug was a great rep to deal with. One heck of a sense of humor too! He was a Cavaliers Bassline member - 2002-2004 I think. Good guy.

I did not know that! That's pretty cool! He marched with a tenor instructor I'm trying to hire for my indoor line. Awesome!

I think you are all stupid. Who in their right mind would play, or better yet OWN a silly marching snare?

Losers!

JUST KIDDING!! :) Here's mine. Since these were taken, I've changed the snares to puresounds. I love them. They sound amazing!! This is the best marching snare I've ever had the pleasure to play IMHO.

The Hybrid batter does feel good; I love it compared to the Maxes by Remo. It breathes more and doesn't kill your hands; something that you don't want over a long period of drumming.

I've tried both the White and Grey Hybrids and I prefer the grey; it's my favorite batter head by far.

Yea, the grey just feels sooo good. I can crank the dog snot out of it and it still feels relatively "soft", unlike the ole' table-top feeling falams i used back in the day.

True that. I've only used the maxes, but dang could those be cranked and really hurt your hands.

Thud - That snare is unbelievable. It was the pictures you first posted of it when you got it in Iraq which made me convince my Director to get a whole line. (which should be here in a few days) Your drum with the hybrids, is absolutely my favorite DRUM, not even limited to marching, on this forum :D

So where did you Dynasty owners buy your snares? Straight from Dynasty.com or a site like Steveweiss.com or WWBW.com? I've been thinking of purchasing off of WWBW.com.... would that be a good idea?

I got mine through eBay actually, a store called BoomBoom Percussion. If I were you, I'd order through steveweissmusic.com, lonestarpercussion.com, or columbuspercussion.com. Those guys wil be far better than WWBW.

WWBW used to be terrible back in the days but they have gotten better over the years.

Buy from Stevie's or Columbus's.

Well, yeahl I know they've been better, but if he goes to a specialized place he'll be treated better.

Steve's, Columbus, and Lonestar are my top three choices for any marching related gear.

Thanks. This drum means the most to me....I gave it to my Mentor and was signed by some Phantom Alumni. Marty gave soooo much to many of us...just a little Thank You Surprise for him....has it set up in a frame and plays it whenever he does a clinic or presentation...

So, slight update on my drum. The metal ring that sits around the bottom bearing edge bent and fell out of place on my drum; which means if I keep my current MX5 on there it will crush the drum. So I called up Dynasty and they're sending me a replacement shell since you can't just put a new ring in the drum.

Anyways, I'll post up some pics of the drum as I take it apart and reassemble it for your viewing pleasure.

Later guys.

No kidding? Free of charge?

I'm actually looking at adding to the collection (as if I need another drum) Thinking about a 2005 Deco Red MTS from the Crossmen. This one is new like the last one. Thoughts?

No kidding Jazzy; they called me personally after I emailed them and they sent it out today free of charge. People may not like their drums, but I can say from experience that Dynasty has some of the best customer service out there.

As far as your nest drum; I think that drum would be an excellent addition to your collection; I've always loved that color combination and it screams Crossmen. It would be a great complement to your Madison drum.

I was actually thinking about putting away some money and getting myself one of the 07-08 Bluecoats snares, they have a few in stock that are new.

I'm trying to talk myself out of this one but I agree the red would look nice next to the Green. I was thinking about a 14x11 tom to complete my Tama kit, which would be much less expensive, or maybe both?

Hmm, that is a tough choice. I'd say, if it were my decision to make, just go for it. I think what it come down to is, how much longer do you think that X-men snare is going to be on the market? They may only have a few left, and I'm sure they're other guys out there thinking about getting that same drum; if they all hesitate, it stays on the market, but if one guy pops on it, then that's one less opportunity you have to get it.

The tom for your set will probably be out there much longer than the snare drum; Tama sells that stuff everyday and you can get one easy enough.

That'd be my 2 cents on it; if you can go for both, get both, otherwise in a few weeks or so after that X-men drum sells, you'll be kickin' yourself for not jumping on it when you could have.
