I have a pair of LP Aspire Bongos, but I'd really like to get some new Remo heads (as 6.5" and 8" sizes have just been released). I was going to go for the Nuskyn (for some added deeper tones and bass) but then I realised the price, so I may go for the Fiberskyns. Has anybody here had any experience with the Fiberskyns? Or do most people when on gigs or in studios, just use the stock heads that come with the bongo/conga etc

cheeeers.

The fiberskyns are cool personally, but they sound a little too bright for me. I use the NuSkyns exclusively when I play live on my Pearl Fiber congas, bongos and djembe. They sound warmer and more "traditional" to natural skins, as well as warming up the brighter fiberglass shells. In the studio, I play natural skins only.

Hi -

I also use the NuSkyn heads on my Pearl Elite fiberglass congas, bongos, and 14" djembe. They sound great, and they don't have to be detuned and retuned after each use.

are the Nuskyns very expensive in the US and other countries? Cos they sure are in the UK.

Hi -

You can get the NuSkyn heads for about $40 each here in the USA. I think they're worth the price, albeit the congas are only going to sound as good as the skill of the player.

If you're a beginner, it may not be worth the additional cost of buying the more expensive heads. There are other synthetic heads that are less expensive, and sound very good as well.
