Hey guys.

So i found a great deal on a sposed vintage pearl kit in 13" rack 16" floor 22" bass sizes.

So if anyone could shed some light on it it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
ionei.

EDIT: also if anyone could tell me what type of wood these drums maybe that would be greatly appreciated aswell.

Kit looks great. Does it look like wood inside or fibreglass? I have a friend that has a kit that looks similar to that one, but his has all fibreglass shells. I believe those badges are from the 70s. I'm sure others would know better then I, but that is my 2 cents.

I'd say late 60's/early 70's based on the lugs.

Not sure of the wood, but I would guess Lamin/Luan.

I think that set is all fiberglass shells from the early 70s

CLP is pretty close I reckon, bit of a conundrum really because of the wrap though...

The lugs (C-043 on the toms and C-050 on the bass) still appear on the Deluxe (9 ply wood) model kits in 1972, but the badge wasn't the same. That badge, in 1972 ( I think the first year that badge appeared) only appeared on the Artist (full fibreglass shell and Professional ( Wood/ fibreglass) models. This is all according to the 72 catalogue.
If the general consensus is that the colour is what was called walnut vinyl, well all and good, the kit is from 1972...

Tell us what the shells are made of and we can even give you a series name lol

Ill try and get some more pictures from the seller.

My main concern is it being some form of beginner pearl, which i dont really wanna buy.
But if its a quality drum kit ill but it asap as the price is awesome ($250 aus).

Cheers for the help guys, really appreciated.

A beginner kit?
Mmmm well only the shell composition can tell you which "level" the drums were produced for at that time.
If they are fibreglass or fibreglass lined shells they should be "bright".
But even if they are 9 ply luan (phillipine mahogany) they would not sound like a 9 ply drum made today.
You have to remember though that this is a vintage kit, and people buy vintage kits for the looks and unique sounds vintage kits produce because of their age!
$250 for a kit like this in our market is a pretty fair price I reckon, as long as the shells themselves are in good order (no splits/delaminations).
+'s: the wrap looks intact and should clean up well.
the chrome looks in good order and should also clean up well.
all lugs look to be there ( and I have just spent nearly a year chasing
down lugs to refurbish a 1972 kit, much less the cost of the lugs when I
found them ).
the cost is reasonable.
-'s: you may not want the kit because at the time of manufacture the model
may have been a "beginner" level kit.

Looks to me like the +'s > -'s but it's your money lol
There is plenty of advice available here if you want it, about how to simply "fix up" vintage luan shells...
