alright so i used to have this problem where i would get crackling during playback and i thought i fixed it but it was never 100 percent, it would come and go. Now its back and i dont know what to do. sometimes it's worse and sometimes it's better than this and sometimes i get a perfect recording. heres a quick sample of what it sounds like.

Have you checked your signal flow?

It happens to me too sometimes. It could be any number of issues, to many to list. It's just one of the drawbacks of electronic recording. Restarting the computer seems to fix it, but eventually it happens again. It can be pretty frustrating.

What computer are you using to record with? And what is the buffer set at while tracking and mixing? General rule is to track at low buffer settings and then raise them way up while mixing and using plugins, etc.
Also, having wireless turned on can produce this, sometimes.

macbook. it's at the maximum for the buffer. there are only 2 options in garageband, max or min

Turn off airport. There is one update in particular that was known to cause pops and clicks. There was a thread on Apple support how to go back to the previous update and I did that. Also, since this is your recording computer, turn off auto updates. Run it yourself every once in a while but only update what you need and maybe run a time machine backup right before downloading and installing.
