I'm David from Topeka, KS. I'm trying to decide between Cavies, Blue Stars, and Crossmen - and trying to figure out whether or not I have the chops or even a shot at a top ten corps. Going to decide by the end of this week I think.

My name is Chris, and i'll be going out for the crossmen and carolina crown for pit mainly, but snare as a second choice.

trying out at spirit for snare. i tried out two years ago and got cut last hour of first camp. I'm in shape this year and can play like twenty times better than then. So i'm pretty hopeful

i'm from south east indiana and i'm thinking possibly between capital regiment and blue stars. but i'm not sure if i did it i would be able to afford it at all. oh, and i'd try out for snare. a lot of our drumline is trying out for blue stars but i'm not sure if i want to try that corps or not. if i am not able to do snare i could also try pit or bass but i have never played in the pit in high school, but i have played bass in my freshman of high school. oh just to let you know, i'm a junior in high school. and if i try out for capital regiment, see ya there PHS Snare.

I'm from Texas, and if I was exactly half my age I would try out for the Madison Scouts. :-) Seriously, though - if you can possibly swing it financially DO march drum corps. It's life-changing, you make great friends, and when you get back to school your chops will be twice what they were when you left. It doesn't matter so much where you march, just pick a corps that takes good care of it's members and you will grow as a musician and as a person. I marched for three years in the early 80's and those are still some of my best memories. Best of luck to all you guys (and girls) still young enough to march!

Jazzycat, I'm getting tired of you always being right (and taking the words out of my mouth) :p

Well, I'd give my left nut to march again. I thought about looking into the local DCA corps here but being a single parent, there's no way I could make the practices and still be there for my daughter. Oh to be young again!

Well, officially I'm signed up for the Crossmen San Antonio audition weekend Nov 21-23. If anyone else is heading that way it'll be cool to meet you.

How is everyone beginning their preparations?

Yes they were. They were very sick. But now Mike Jackson (SCV) and Tim Jackson (BD) are doing the percussion stuff there, so they'll still be awesome.

a lot of good words for Mike Jackson. If I ever try out for a corps it would be SCV all the way. I love them. Their show this year was by far my favorite.

My friend and I are probably going to try out for spirit. Neither of us really are thinking we have a big chance of making it, just want to see what it's like for later, and doesn't hurt to try.

Crown. I don't know if I want to stay with the pit or go for the snare line though.

If you go, go with the attitude that you will make it. Play aggressively, and you will get so much more out of it. I was cut from them at the last camp last year because of how aggressively I played (or lack of). I'm a very humble guy by nature; that's something I have to put aside. The staff there is awesome, and if you play with a pair on the drum (pair of sticks, of course), regardless of how good you are you will gain a lot from the camp and more importantly get noticed.

I'll be going to Boston Crusaders and Glassmen (both FL camps) on snare or tenors. Haven't decided at this point...I should probably get on it, hah
