OKAY i have old style mounting, not ISS, not Optimount, i wanna change to optimount (the ones that hook on to the tension rods) ----- will optimount work with pre-2000 export drums? the ones with the long tension lugs.... and for installation do i just simply unscrew the old holder?? okay..
second question.... for DRUM HEADS... my export set came with pearl protone top, and a "pearl" resonateing bottom. If i were to change my drum heads, do i just replace the beating one? or if i were to order a Drum head will it come with a resonateing pad as well?, or do i just buy two drum heads for the drum.... if anyone can answer questions please help, thanks

I can help you with one question, about the heads. When you replace the batter head, that's usually all you get, the one head. Resonant heads usually have to be bought separately. You might find a pre-pack that has all the heads you need, but usually they just include the batter heads.
As far as the mounting question, I prefer the I.S.S. mounting system, as it lets the toms ring/sustain longer than the OptiMounts. The OptiMounts are known to decrease sustain a little. But it's your call and your $, so the decision will be up to you. I'm sure the Vin man or Jonathan or PADman will help with your specific question about retro-fitting the toms with OptiMounts. Cheers, Leonard
export99drummer;
from what I've read elsewhere on the forums, I'm
pretty sure you need 8 sets of lugs on each drum
for the optimounts to work - most smaller export
drums only have 6 (the floor toms may have 8, but
I'm not sure) so you might have problems.
I'm sure a few of the other guys and gals can answer
for definite... I personally like the look of the ISS better.

I think the optis are made to work on 6 lug drums from 8" to 13", but I could be wrong. After all, there's one on the smallest tom in this picture, which looks to be either an 8 or 10, and I'm pretty sure it's not 8 lugs.

Just a thought - Being that your shells are already drilled, I am not 100% convinced that you will notice much a difference between the opti and the ISS. I also think that your dealer can order the ISS mounts that include the cover plates for the hole in the shell (the plates look very similar to a Pearl badge if I remember correctly). I think this route may be money better spent.

I'd be VERY interested to know what the scoop is on the suspension mounts, from Ray or any of the Pearl guys...
What exactly are the characteristics of each type, what sizes do each type fit, and can they be used with full body lugs?
Thanks-

Yes there will be a difference in the mounting sound wise.. .what "chokes" the drum is the fact there is an object going through it... in this case, the tom holder... I do not remember who put the post in, but Irecommend using IS and not opti.. ISS you will know it fits, easily, and I have opti's on my ELX kit and makes the tom much heavier then ISS...the only reason I put Opti's on the kit is because i changed to all die cast hoops, and ISS does not work on Die cast hoops. ISS is much cheaper then Opti, and also get the cover plate that they sell for the existing hole.

export99drummer,
The OptiMount will fit most drums as long as there's at least 35mm between the top of the lug to the bearing edge. Please see the attached photo.
The OptiMount will not fit 14" 6 lug toms...the spacing is too wide between the lugs.
You are correct, for installation simply remove the tom bracket. If you wish to cover the holes, we offer the GK-90 Masking Plate. A photo of the GK-90 can be seen here: http://www.pearldrum.com/accs.asp.

Hi Gene -
That link doesn't work for me and I was unable to find that part number in the replacement parts section of the web page. Is there somewhere else I could look?
Thanks!

not sure on the optimounts but the ISS will work no problem and pearl sells a cover for the open hole from the mount. also you will need to replace the top and bottom heads and they are seperate
