What's the best notation software? I would like to start writing things out. I would like something that has a good drum line and concert instrument list. I also have a mac, so something that works well with it.

I am a longtime, satisfied user of FinaleŽ

Until this year, I was a Finale Die-hard....however, a friend of mine purchased Sibelius and I was blown away by the interface and how many of the "glitches" that Finale always had were gone. A week later I purchased Sibelius. It is in my opinion the best notation software for percussion out there.

As for the playback sounds, I use Virtual Drumline 2.5 and some of the Samples from Propellerhead's Reason 4.0 as well.

I found one very interesting software with very comfortable entering notes for drums. I was always disturbed during entering the notes for drums by stady attention which note is for which drum and which midi key is that. Here you can do it with mouse and control it visually. This is Obtiv Octava Composer (http://www.professional-composer.com) .
