View Full Version : Announcement: New vs. Old Eliminator Chains
Gene Okamoto

Shortly after we introduced the Eliminator, we discovered that the casting connecting the chain to the pedal was improperly cast thus causing breakage in some cases. This was immediately remedied by changing the casting to stainless steel.
Although we responded quickly, some pedals were sold with the “old” chain. The attached photo shows the difference between the old and new chains.
If you have the older chain please contact your dealer or us for a free replacement.
I don't live with my pedals right now (don't ask), and I don't know when I'll be home to look to see if they have the old chain (they are both at least 12 months old, are they covered with this?)
Also, do I contact the original seller (in this case IMS) or do I contact pearl directly.
Thanks
Gene Okamoto

If you have the older chain please take it to the dealer where you purchased your pedal and upon verification they'll contact us and we'll send the replacement to you.

THAT I don't know. I've met the Swiss Pearl distributor and he's an excellent drummer and a friendly person! I would try what I suggested (seeing your dealer first) then if you have problems, please let me know and I'll contact him in your behalf.

Gene,
My pedal (with the strap) broke last night, while practicing.
It broke on the toe connector at the end of the strap, as you described.
I bought it from AJ's in Tampa. Should I contact them for the replacement?
Thanks,

How long have you had it and are you heavy footed... I think what Gene meant was the casting itself was breaking apart, not where the casting joins the chain/belt.
Gene I have the old type , and I 'll go see my dude this weekend to get replacements

Yes, it was the casting that broke. I am getting the new and improved "blue" belt. That's what I get for getting one of the first runs.....it's been over two years, now.
I'm not that heavy footed. It took quite a while for it to break. I don't suspect I'll have a problem with the new belt.
It's still the best pedal I've used in over 30 plus years!!;)

Hello gene,
I have a Eliminator double pedal I purchased last year. I don't see either version of the casting from your photo, although the casting at the end of each chain has a more polished chrome color than the 'Brushed' look of the newer version. I see the lug for the tuning key at the top of the castiung, but I cannot see the sides of the casting to determine if they have holes or not....can you help?
Thanks

Exported,
The casting has to be one or the other.
The casting/chain needs to be removed in order to see the holes.
It sounds to me like you have the older ones by your description.
Please check and let me know via private message. Gene

Mr. Okamoto, is there a certain production date that this was corrected on, like how on the drum boxes the production date is inverted as in 0330 would be March 2003? If you recently got the eliminator double pedal is there any other way to tell if you need the new casting and chain other than removing it and inspecting? Thanks.

The best thing to do is to remove the chain from the footboard, the other side can stay on. It only takes a couple of minutes using a Phillips screwdriver.

I bought my Eliminator used...Do I still go to a dealer and have them handle it or what?
Gene,
I FINALLY got an Eliminator. And I knew about this "sticky" post. The pictures/attachments are GONE! So I can't doublecheck my unit. Could you get the pictures "reattached"?

Hello Mr. Okamoto,
I'm going to buy my first double pedal next month and I'd like to see the picture you described. I'll use it to see if the Eliminator I'll probably get is the new one.
Thanks in advance...
Regards!

drumset man to help gene and you out
guitar center is an authorized pearl dealer and not all music shops are authorized pearl dealers maybe they get them from a different company via mail order , my suggestion is if you got them at a guitar center then go to the guitar center if you got it at another music store i say go and try them .

Hi Gene, I am a pearl customer from Singapore. I have the eliminator (double) pedal with the old chain. In addition, my footboard are the old ones , meaning those without the 2 locking nuts at the side which i see on the new issue eliminator pedals. After a few gigs , the inner screws actually comes loose and will "threaten" to disconnect the footboard from the powershifter piece.
My singapore dealer is swee lee company. Could I please have replacements for the two things I mentioned....
I would really appreciate it and I really need your help. thanks Gene.

May I just say that Pearl kicks an unreal amount of ***. Something breaks, or you need help with something, and Gene, "the man" himself, helps you out. Damn I love Pearl.
