LIttle Help?

Hey, i'm new here and need a little help. My private teacher wants me to write a cadence for him and I need any advice I can get. I've been messing around writing before but nothing that i really thought was good.

I can't tell you how to write a cadence.
I could give you one that I've written but that would be cheating

The only advice I have for you is to watch vids on youtube. Check out DCI. You're bound to get ideas from those guys. Maybe take some ideas from drum set players
Be sure to include rudiments.

Rudiments. Even in simple patterns, use rudiments.

one of my friends gave me the advice to listen to other peoples cadences to get ideas. what i ended up doing was taking a 3-2 son clave beat and build off of that it

Put a bunch of hybrid rudiments in it. & bass grooves.
Get the audience involved.

Record yourself playing. A LOT. Mix things. Program stuff. Set up a snare drum apart from your drumset and throw rudiments together. If you smoke pot (doubt it, but I'm covering all my bases), blaze up and record some weirdness. Then reverse it and play it back against something else.

Basically, get creative. In-the-box thinking is good for making arrangements and writing four-part harmonies, but when it comes to drums, the last thing you want is to be boxed. Think of the most awesome thing you can play, and imagine how it would sound as a drum cadence. Keep doing that til you find one that fits.
