Say it ain't soooo...Discuss. True or false? A youtube vid. shows them using drums with Dynasty covers on them, but does that make the drums Dynasty? I hope this isn't true. I really liked their Pearls.

It is true. Pearl's contract with them was up, they were having financial issues and Rennick being a Dynasty artist made it easier for them to strike a deal with them over Pearl.

Yeah, this was public a while ago. PR moves to Dynasty.

NOOOOOOOOOOO.
Their Pearls were SO secksy. Even though dynastys sound great IMO, the Pearls looked a LOT better.

If you go to DCI.org and view the photo gallery's, they have a few shots of the snares for PR. They look halfway decent I suppose- Chrome with some marble-esque wrap.

I think they look like tabletop covering.
Sick.

They look exactly like the top of my bar. Looks good on the bar - the drums? Not so much.

All Dynasty drums are covered in counter top covering. you can go to wilsonart.com and see all the finishes available. But yes... it is just counter top covering. Although I don't think Blue Devils are this year because their covering is one of those retro drumset oyster coverings that were so popular back in the day.

Saw Phantom last night at the Stanford show...
Words can not discribe how good their line is yet again this year. I was talking with my friends after we watched them in the lot and were walking to the stadium to catch Vanguard, Phantom then BD... We just all agreed on one thing... Can they get any cleaner???... literally, I have never heard a line play that clean in my life and it is only July... absolutely insane!!! There was not one tick or a slight fuzz the whole time we watched them in the lot up close and personal. I can't attest to whether or not there was any fuzz on the field because if there was... it did not project like SCV or Blue Devils.
As for their dynasty drums... they look sooo sweet. The basses sound great and so do the tenors. They do a great job of tuning the snares but I am sorry dynasty snare just do not have the volume or snare sound that you get with a Pearl or Yamaha. Their snareline sounds flawless but the drums are still the same boxy dynasty sound. But by far the best sounding dynasty line I have ever heard.
It has been such long time since I have heard a line that actually made me want to watch or felt like I was missing something special if I had not watched them (never got to see phantom 06,07 in person). I mean... it was even exciting just watching/listening to them play eights. You can not hear the hand transitions at all. They of course play all of their fairly basic exercises with flawless technique... and then they bust out the book... just when you thought they sounded amazing doing some fairly basic exercises... they open up with the loudest most piercing shots and accents you have ever heard from a line.
They are amazing yet again this year and Dynasty has not fouled them up one bit...

It will probably get taken down... but if you go to youtube soon and put in 2008 Phantom Regiment you can see the Stanford lot I was talking about. There are moments in the video that sound like fuzz due to overload of the mic... but trust me... this stuff was amazing, videos never do it justice.

I just saw those vids, the drum feature this year is absolutely nuts.
I don't think the drums sound all that bad for the most part. I do like the wetness of the snares. The basses aren't too bad, not quite as warm as pearls. The tenors, eh, they sound a little dead to me. Maybe I'm just used to hearing the carbonplys.

Can I get a link to those vids, please?

I don't understand why everyone loves Phantom but the devs still continue to dominate when PR is obviously better IMO

Well, I saw both lines in San Antonio this weekend and I can confirm that Phantom has the better line this year. Devils are darn good though. Bluecoats and Cavies were smoking as well.

I honestly think BD is better. They have won so many times, and are continuing to win.
BD just has that oomph, and i don't think PR has it.
In my opinion.
:D
And the dynasty thing is kinda weird, lots of things in DCI are changing this year.
BD changed to pro-mark, switched to 5 tenors, almost completely new snare line.
And PR got new drums. But i gotta tell you, they did great at the dallas show.Spartacus is an amazing theme.
