I was just wondering what you guys would think of it. Either size with 3 holes drilled in the shell for a high, loud pop? I'd do it, once I get my dream snare, provided its not sold between now and the time its takes me to get $600+ dollars for tax and case

I reckon it would sound like crap.
I haven't heard a vented snare I like to date.

That's an idiotic thing to do. Making large vents and making numerous of them deprive the snare of it's natural acoustic traits.
1. It makes it sound more shallow and cuts it's body out. (pardon the pun)
2. It takes away most of the tone.
3. It looks horrible in my opinion.
4. It loses projection further away from the drum, up close they sound loud as hell, far away it's much weaker.
The points that ludwiddy makes are definitely valid, however they may your reason to do it, rather than not.
I wouldn't personally do it, because I agree that it takes the acoustic traits from the drums, but maybe you want it to dry up. As for the looks... some people love the look, other hate it. I personally think it looks like someone took a dremel to a snare drum, but I worked at a music shop where kids loved them.
Just know that ludwiggy's points are exactly what will happen, and decide if thats what you want.

You shouldn't be dating snares anyway...that's just unnatural.
Oh...and THSdrummer...bad idea.

It was just an idea :( .
I had no clue they sound weaker farther away...crap that just killed my dream snare I'd tried out....god dangit. (not a firecracker snare). I just though it would be nice and loud. This was an idea coming from somebody with no experience with vented snares.... :o
Ok, thanks for the sides.
