Has anyone tried this snare in either the 5x14 or 6.5? Your opinions please!
Thanks

Yes, I had the pleasure of doing a test review of the 6.5 version, and I tell you it kills! Is looks GREAT in live, better than you can tell from pics, and the sound is fantastic at any range. I had it for some weeks and used it in the studio. It was truly a gem! Probably will buy one soon.

A drummer came into the studio recently where I work with a 5" UltraCast. I was surprised with the sound quality of his drum. I've recorded aluminum snares in the past (Ludwig Acrolites) and they all seemed to have a 'soup kettle' resonance to them that I personally didn't care for. The UltraCast doesn't suffer from this problem. It has the same tonality as a DW Edge, which is a wood/metal combo shell snare. If I were in the market for a new snare, the UltraCast would be an awesome choice.

A very cool drum. I own the 6,1/2" depth. It is just so versitile.
It is excellent at any tuning range. Its unlike any metal drum I have ever encountered. The drum just never sounds bad and sounds amazing tunined tightly. The sensititvity is uncomparable to any drum on the market.
I recommend it to anyone!

Hi Everyone,

After reading the reviews of the Ultracast snare and the comments on this forum ...I think this is the snare for me. I've been playing a Maple 5.5 Masters for about year and looking for a change.....so I just ordered the 6.5 version of the Ultracast .....I Hope everyone here is right about the sound range and tonality of this metal drum.

Thanks
Basil

I love the sound of the Ultracast!! I played one at the local music store and fell in love with the sound. It is agressive without being balls-to-the-walls. I think it is a versatile drum. It sounds like the Nobles and Cooley Alloy classic and is about $200 cheaper in street price. I ordered mine from Roli Garcia Jr. and should get it in 1-2 weeks. I can't wait.

Speaking of these, I was just looking, and the Tico Torres sig snare is a 3mm cast shell, while the Ultracast is a 3mm milled shell. I wonder how the sound compares.

Just a thought....

Are the milled ones seemless?
My guess is the milled ones have tighter focus.

Hey drumfool! Sorry I haven't responded. I've been working. I'm getting the 5x14 Ultracast snare. I like it's quick attack/bite and it's sensitivity. I could never get into 6.5x14 snares. I think they look weird/unproportional and they don't have the sound I'm going for. I would rather have a 13" diameter ultracast but they don't make it. :(

Hi, I was looking through some old posts and saw yours about the Ultracast. I'm thinking about the 6.5. Will these tune for a deeper sound for rock as well as higher pitch. Also, what will be the difference between the 5.5 and the 6.5, louder, deeper, etc.

Thanks for the help!
