I've recently purchased the Ian Paice signature snare drum..... and I'm over the moon with how it plays !

I play in a couple of bands - an indie-type band performing original material and a rock covers band playing, amongst other things, Deep Purple songs. The drum sits neatly into both types of music.

We recorded a demo track at a studio in Manchester last weekend (indie band) and the snare sound was outstanding. No moon gel or tape necessary and the rim shots sounded superb. The engineer was suitably impressed I can tell you.

One thing I'd like to know. My snare drum bears the serial number IP000032. Can you tell me how many of these drums have been made? These drums are likely to become collectors items I would imagine !

There's no chance of me just hanging on to it in the hope that it'll be worth a few more quid in years to come, though. I bought it to play it and play it to death I will !

Thanks for reading my drivel thus far !!

It's only a question of time till I get mine, Ian is a great drummer and I got to have his snare. As far as the # goes - it's in production right now and I don't know how much longer they will be making them, maybe for as long as it's profitable, maybe forever...I don't know.

The one I have is IP10086. I have to agree with you TTstash that it is a outstanding snare. Such a joy to use.

The I.P. sig. is a great drum and it is very versatile. Since getting mine it has climbed up the depth chart to number two in my arsenal. I did replace the batter hoop with a die-cast one and IMO the drum sounds even sweeter now.

Number 1 on the depth chart is the Noble & Cooley Alloy Classic.

Man you love that thing. You gotta bring it in and show me Friday. I gotta see this for myself...out of 31+ snares you think a 4.75" depth one has the most depth...yeah...I gotta see this...:D

Blank,
I think you misunderstood my use of "depth chart." I was making an analogy to sports from a coaches perspective. For example most NFL coaches have at least three quarterbacks to work with and each has their place in the pecking order.(starter, 2nd string, etc.) In my world the N&C is my starter, the Ian Paice is the backup, etc., etc., etc...
