hi

a few years back i bought a lovley ELX ruby fade 5 peice and i love it to bits

but its only recently now i decided to add another bass drum in on the setup,

but the 2nd bass drum isnt matching, its an old export white 22x16 with similiar remo heads.

now....iv often used other elx bass drums with my elx ruby, sept they wud be the 2006 model and i have the 2002 model or 2004 or whatever.

iv done recordings and i cant help but notice the difference in sound once i mic em 2 up.

so im worried about buying another ELX ruby fade when i need an older model!

what should i do?!

Just use a double pedal dude. If the wood configurations are gunna keep changing on you, you'll never get the same sound.

yeah try using a double pedal. this way you can have double on one kick and then also use the other kick so you have tone options. so like you could have a different kick sound when wanted and yet still double bass on one.

I kinda ran into that same deal when I bought my 2nd kick drum, which at the time was the Export select, while the rest of my kit was about 10 yrs older standard Export series, sometimes depending on the heads I use (single ply thin heads especially) I can tell there's some difference, and can be covered up by artful muffling.

What kinda bothered me was my older export kick had the aluminum counterhoop, and the newer ones have all wooden hoops, which just looks crappier, so I swapped 1/2 the lugs from one drum and transplanted them to the new drum because my OCD would have killed me to have different looking drums :D
