Here goes. I got $200 credit at samash for christmas and I'm looking to buy one of these snares.

Tama Artwood Maple 14x6.5 ~ $260
Yamaha Musashi Oak 13x6.5 ~ $260
Mapex Black Panther Birdseye Maple 14x6.5 ~ $315 (online)

Now, my dad said he would give me the $200 if I really wanted to buy the Black Panther and I would tack on the rest. Money is not an issue. I really just want to know which drum would fit my style the best. I like hardcore/metal mostly. August Burns Red, Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, you get the picture. Which one of these would best fit what I'm trying to play?

The Yamaha Oak sounds like what you want. Oak has great attack but is also warm (at least, the Oak Custom at GC is). Add on that it comes in the "Power Piccolo" size metal players love.

Thanks, any other opinions?

I'll second the Musashi. Oak has a very strong, bright attack that will cut through nicely.

Sounds like the Musashi is the way to go. Any last opinions before I buy?

I've got the 13" musashi. Gonna play it in church this Sunday :D

I wonder what DC hoops would do to the sound.

Drier, Stiffer and more attack. Bigger rimshot and cross stick.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure 13" die cast hoops are only avaible with 6 holes. Though most 13" snares would require 8 holes :( That's why the 13" reference snare has only 6 lugs!!
