Looking for cheap pair, under $300, $200 is perfect though.
I use a macbook pro and firepod.

I've heard good comments about the M-Audio BX5a pair.

Your price range is fairly low for good, solid monitors, however.

They will be better than what I use now though I would imagine.
Im using basically boom box speakers, the kind that come with a 6 cd changer unit.

Same. KRK RP5's @ $150 per monitor are great. I actually got my Special Edition RP6's @ $99 per monitor at a GC sale a while back, and I LOVE them. The RP5's are a LOT better than the M-Audio BX5a's, and are a lot clearer with less hum. Better bass especially. The RP6's are PERFECT monitors, and RP8's I imagine are amazing.
