Greetings all! The name's Glenn Collie from BrisVegas. I recently purchased a Masters BRX from a fellow that was "Upgrading" to a maple shell kit! Boy did I jump for joy. In Australia a Master's Kit of this size will generally set you back AU$7000. I got out of it for less than half of that.
It came (all in Great condition) with Icon Rack, Matching Snare and all H'ware minus throne and DKP - all with Satin Rims and Lugs.
My other Kit is a Sleishman Signature Maple, which already had all Pearl H/ware so the switch was painless!!!!!!!
I had already made the switch to Eliminator Pedals and Remote Hats but the Maples were way too sweeet for the Prog/Tech/Metal that we were writing so a Birch Kit was the only way to go. I got bitten by the Birch Bug earlier in my recording career, due to the mega-punchy SONOR Kit that I once owned...
It put up with 11 long years of set-ups, rip-downs, sessions, tours, and amateur roadies with good intentions! It never missed a beat and PUNCH!
Of all the kits I have been lucky enough to use and own, the BRX is the most consistant of the lot. They hold their tune and sound astonishing at any level. Their note is Thick and Rich but don't have to be throttled to open up!
The fit and finish is typical high-end Pearl (flawless) and the Virgin Kick Drum has more punch than Balboa!!!
Bang for your Buck = BRX Masters Studio... :)

Hello and welcome to the Forum. It sounds like you got exactly what you needed and wanted at a good price. The BRX is an excellent kit. I prefer the Pearl 6 ply Maple bass drum, but I use Pearl`s 6 ply Birch toms which are the same as yours. I love the sound of Birch toms. Congratulations on your new kit and have fun!

I'd have to agree with you on the 6 ply Maple drums. They are beautiful and warm sounding drums.
I lead more towards masters mrx 6 ply maple drums. but birch and maple go great together!

Gday mate!
Phill ere from canbvaugeus.
I went the good old import road and paid about 4.5 k for my 7pc masters mrx.
I made a big order (12k) and worked out that i saved about 40% after shipping and all taxes.
Very happy with my kit.

Cheers everyone for your warm welcome!!!
While I'm still working out the pictures, I'll give you an overview of my specs:
Toms (all mounted) 10", 12", 14", 16". Don't know depth but they aren't square sizes.
Kick Drum is 22" by 18" Virgin. Snare is 14" by 5.5"?
All Platinum Mist w/Satin H/ware, which makes it a 2004/5 model... from what I am told the fellow bought all individual drums off the shelf and made to spec.
The Icon rack is great and is the same colour as the Rims and Lugs so it all looks very industrial and Matte silver. It wouldn't have been my first choice of colour schemes but I must say it is different and gets quite alot of comments... (it is growing on me!)
I run an Eliminator Remote H/H to the centre (above Rack 1 and 2) directly above my snare and I have a Belt Drive Eliminator DKP with Blue Cams and Red Apple Danmar wood beaters.
Heads at the moment are Remo Powerstrokes with fiber Falam Slams, and Ambassadors/Emperors.
Cymbals are all Zildjian A's, A Customs, Z Customs and Zilbel. I run a ride each side, 20" A Earth Ride on my right and 20" Z Custom Rock Ride on my left to even up the whole symmetrical approach. Sticks are 'Promark 444 Bobby Rocks for Live' and 'Regal Tip Alex Van Halens' for the Studio.
My 2 larger mounted toms are 1 either side as well so with the exception of having only one kick it looks like two 4 pce kits in mirror image - Hats in the middle.
Hey what can I say it works for me! And I must say it is catching on with my students as they can feel the ergonomics at work straight away. They can play for longer, and more comfortably... Better center of gravity and Faster Doubles... Yeah!
I've said enough! Thanks for your interest but sadly, No 'thenextchadsmith' I don't want to sell it. ( Funny but I used to play in the Australian RHCP Show years ago - Blood Sugar and One Hot Minute Days... FUN!) Beanies, Nappies, Socks. You name it, I grooved in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take care all! Stay Tuned. (Literally)
Glenn.

My BRX with central remote Hi-Hats, Symmetrical Set-up
I had a kit very close to that, I miss it very badly, I thought I would get the sound I was looking for, with the MMX. But oh well enjoy it! It is a great kit, I say you did pretty good. Rob

I actually prefer the Masters Studio over the Masters Custom. They just sound awesome when you tune them to that sweet spot. It's all a matter of preferance for each person.

Yeah, I find the BRX has more character and tone than the other series of drums. They are so easy to tune and they do have a sweet spot that is easy to find while tuning.
I think the main thing that impressed me was that they held their tune for so long without having to tweak them every single time you play them! Amazingly Simple yet effective drums.
...And did I mention LOUD?!
