I picked up my Strata Red 6-Piece Weds.night at my local GC here in lovely Allentown,PA. First off, as I have stated before. I am now 100% convinced I made the right choice to sell my Superstar EFX kit and go Visions. I had both kits in my basement and the overall quality is IMO all Pearl. Outside of the cast hoops and arguably the mounting system the Supes had to go. These drums are stunning in appearance and the quality and workmanship is,dare I say, nearly on par with my Sessions. Anybody on the fence in regards to buying one these kits whether a VLX or VSX, don't hesitate. This kit is prime time! I have 2 gigs next week-end and I can't wait! I'll hit you guys with specs if you're interested, and if anybody can give me some feedback on how to post up some pics, it would be appreciated.

Here's a link to help with pusting pics and re-sizing them (I always have to make them medium size).

Cool man, does Jesse work at that GC? He left the one I go to, and said he was becoming manager of the Allentown GC.
Can't wait to see pics of the set!!!

Ebuzz, as far as I know the mgr.'s name is Roderick, they call him Rod in the store. There's been some turn-over the last couple of weeks in the drum dept. A guy by the name of Matt hooked me up. He was cool with me because I came in there with some crazy prices that he matched. I got a 10,12,16 floor,22 kick,Sensitone Snare, + a 14x11 tom for $750 straight up, out the door. My buddy was just there yesterday and said a sales rep told him they may not be selling Gibraltar hardware anymore and pushing some stuff called Sound Percussion?

O, cool dude. That sucks about Gibraltar hardware though, that stuff is solid! I'm using the 5600 series. As far as I know, Sound Percussion has really crappy not reliable harware.

I am hopefully gonna get a chance to get her up and running tomorrow! I'll try and post pics also. EX, I live in Bethlehem, which is 10 minutes east of A-Town. Are you going to GC? If so, ask for Matt, he's the dude that just hooked me up with the kit. He's a solid cat. You should come check my band out sometime. We play A-town occasionaly. We do 80's covers, but we really hype them up in a punk/metal kind of way if you're into that.

Sky,much thanks. I'm waiting on heads right now. I've got the stock Protones on 'em right now and they sound a little muffled. I'm surprised at how heavy those heads are! They are 2-ply though, very similar to G-2's. I do have the Opti's and the SuperHoops on though. What a difference. I will be putting an Evans EQ3 Smooth White reso on the kick, that's what I'm waiting on. I'll post pics when it's hooked up!

awesome!

just out of curiostiy, did you try playing them with the stock hoops/iss before putting your sessions leftovers on it? just curious.

and are you switching back to 1 ply heads?

Sky, I have Ludwig Silver Dot's for the 10 & 12 rack toms, Ludwig 1-ply clear heavy on my 14 & 16. I did not try the stock hoops and the ISS before making the switch but a good friend of mine has an EXR which I believe has the same mounting application and I've played his many times. I'm a rim-shot guy on everything, including toms and when I play his kit it feels like I'm burying the stick in the hoop. The SupeHoops are feel alot more like DieCast to me,which I'm used to. As for the ISS, I never liked the concept and at about $30 a clip I felt the investment in a quality mounting system like the Opti was more than worth it.

while i don't mind 1.6's as much as you, i do think that the optis are a worhty upgrade.

Sky, I got my EQ3 reso late last night. I was up till midnight messin' with my stuff. The wife is still pissed. Anyway, I have the kick tuned up and the new hoops and Opti's installed. I am going to start putting the whole mess together with the rack tonight. I gotta' tell you, with the clear EMAD and the EQ3, it's the loudest kick drum I've ever heard. Louder than my Session and my Starclassic EFX, and I had the same heads on those drums. This kick is amazing!
