hi, im kinda intrigued by this visions series. it's like the export, but a whole lot better. but i do still have questions: 1.) what is its shell composition?(inner/outer plies) and 2.) are the bearing edges like the refs too? replies will be very much appreciated. thanks.

phleghm,

there are plenty, (and i mean plenty because you can see it for yourself) of threads that have all this info and more.

but to sum it up for you:

1.the shell composition is birch with basswood sandwiched in the middle (birch/bass/birch) with the toms being 6ply and the floor toms and bass being 8ply.
2. the bearing edges are not the same as the reference series.

Ya, Pearl is marketing it saying that it is reference-ish, sort of its little bro, but the only way that the visions take a page out of the refs books is through differing ply thicknesses. Nothing else, although the finishes are very nice. Nothing against the kit, I'm actually considering one myself.

what also made me interested are the hardware... it looks rock solid now, compared to the cheesy export's(which i had a bad experience). 00**

thank for the info guys.. reps for y'all.

thanks man, rep returned ;).

the hardware is significantly better than the export hardware; granted i think the exports hardware (stands that is) was good, just not exactly up to par with say, the tama roadpro series. Now the 900 series is just as good if not better/cleaner looking.

not to mention that the snare is awesome, and clad with features such as a 2 way strainer, brass swivel nuts (like on the rest of the set), and its sensitione alloy. (while not as thick as the rest of the sensitone line up.)

no problem man.

if its any help, its interesting to note that unlike the new maple exports that are out, the tom holders, lugs and bass drum spurs are all unique to the visions line. (only the iss system is the same.)

all the lugs have brass swivel nuts, which is a feature normally associated with higher end kits (not even the sessions series had them) and the lugs themselves are also styled after the reference series lugs, so theres another 'baby reference' similiarity to them.

The bass spurs are noticably beefier than the old export ones as well.

yeah, that's good, cz i had a problem w/ my bass drum spurs and the floor tom leg bracket on my export, they broke. it was pretty annoying. is there any report that a visions series hardware broke like mine? cz if things comes to worse. i might go for the tama starclassics instead. i've heard they're "tough as nails".

no, not anything yet, but the 900 series is pretty new.

having said that, the stands are very beefy and just recently won an award for having such good quality at a low price.

i wouldn't worry about breaks.
