Heres what I've come up with so far,
14"x14" Floor tom
14"x6.5" Rootbeer Fade Reference snare drum
and now for the cymbals (suggestions for hardware will be appreciated, preferably 900 series hardware, add-ons to cymbal stands for splashes.)
Now for the cymbals
14" ZHT Mastersound Bottom
18" ZHT Medium thin Crash
20" ZHT Flat ride
16" ZHT EFX
10" ZHT Splash
8" ZHT Splash
8" ZHT Mini-Hats
And possibly Coated remo Pinstripes on my toms, and CS Dot Snare Heads, or Powerstroke Xs
Tell me what you think! feel free to give constructive criticism!

Are those cymbals you already have or you plan to buy? If the latter, I'd just go with saving up for better cymbals (especially if you still think you'll be playing in 5 years)! For the price of all that, you can get a few pro-line cymbals (hats, ride, crash, splash) which would be much better, imo. Then another year or two down the line and you have enough money to complete your collection. Trust me, it's a lot better than just having lots of cymbals lying around that you want to replace eventually, I'm sure many people on the forums agree.
Also, I wouldn't go with pinstripes on the toms, but that's just my taste. They sound beautiful, and I want to hear those babies sing (I'm not sure what heads I'm going to put on mine yet, maybe Aquarian response 2's). I'm not experienced with any of those other heads.
The reference snare drum, though, sounds like an awesome idea, if I had the money I'd add that to my VLX kit (although I'd probably go with 20 ply masterworks snare so I could get more finish/wood choices).
The tom would also be a good addition, if you think you need it. I'm comfortable with my 3-4 kit set-up, (which includes a 14x14 floor tom), so I'm set.
Good luck!

Thanks, I plan on getting those cymbals because I'm on a bit of a budget, and the stock heads on the toms on the VLX are actually pinstripes without the stripes but if you look close enough you can see the oil stuff applied around the edge, and I like coated heads so since they'll have a similar sound.

If you're on a budget why get so many mediocre cymbals? Why not just get a few high quality ones instead?

Sounds good. Has anybody actually ordered Vision add-ons and if so what's the lead time?

The ZHT may be cheap but they aren't mediocre. I own the 20" flat ride and love it dearly. Fantastic sound. I also love the ZHT Mastersound hi-hats, outstanding.

What's wrong with ZHT cymbals... have you heard the ones that are mentioned in the post?

They are made of 12% Tin and 88% Copper, unlike the ZXT and ZBT which are made out of 8% Tin and 92% copper. On top of that ZHT chinas have random hammering instead of the symmetrical hammering found in the rest of the ZHT ZXT and ZBT series, and it sounds very nice too. I'm also gonna get the session optimounts later, and die cast hoops.

I got a 14x14 floor tom ordered. 3-6 months is the ETA.

the heads on the vlx are NOT pinstripes just missing the stripe, although they ARE 2 ply heads like the pinstripes.
that 'oil' you see isn't oil, its just the way a two ply head looks like when light shines through it.
the only heads with actual oil between the plies are evans hydraulics.

zht's are noticably nicer than the zbt's and zxt's.
however, are you a died in the wools zildjian man? because for about the same price, you can get actual b20 bronze: the xs20's from sabian, which are great.

Thats not what the dealer said, and he knows his stuff, and the center wasn't oil that was the effect of the light passing through, look very closely around the edge you don't see the same effect.

I see a thin layer of oil along my heads. I think its the general idea of Pinstripes, but not as dampened. Like Evans EC2.

i own a ZHT 18' China and a 16'EFX and i can say i am pleased. The china is nice, not my type pf china but still nice. THe EFX is awesome very trashy, but can still be used as a crash, lots of texture, and its really easy to got multiple, unique sounds out of it

The edge of the ring of oil would be where the ring would be located. The oil is on pinstripes as well! Remember Remo makes pearl's pro-tone heads.

trust me you guys, its not oil, its just the way the plies look together! you would see this on ANY 2 ply head, look at a g2, or just a clear emperor and prove it to yourself.
i don't doubt that this guy knows his stuff, but is he above making mistakes?

Skywlk. is correct. Protones are NOT oil filled. As far I know Evans Hydraulics are the only heads made in that manner. As for ZHT's, I'm a Zildjian guy and think the ZHT's are a quality semi-pro alternative. I will say this though, the XS20's are very, very nice looking cyms. I sampled some at GC the other day and was extremely impressed. As for wait times on Visions, I ordered a VSX not a VLX and was told 7 to 10 days for the kit + my add on.

Honestly I would much rather get a few A or K customs instead of all those ZHT's...you could probably get some awesome hats, a ride, and a crash or two for that price. But it's all up to you, of course :).

I'll get a close up of the head, it does look different maybe the picture will explain it better, it might be some other kind of residue that is applied however.

All clear ply heads look like that, however i'm pretty certain it isn't oil between the two heads. Its just the way a chemical used in the plastic of the heads reacts to light.

O'rly? Where are you living? I don't understand the fact that mine would take so long.
