Well, I couldn't wait. I ordered my Visions kit today from my local GC. My wife is gonna' kill me! Anyway, 10,12,16 on the floor, 22" kick. I also ordered a 14x11" to hang off my rack. I'm not a big fan of steel snare drums but I will prolly hold onto the Sensitone for a spare. The color is Strata Red wrap. I will be gigging this baby so I didn't want lacquer. I'm outfittinG with SupeHoops and Opti's, Evans G2's + an EMAD. Just in case anybody wants to debate Vision vs. Tama Superstar EFX, I'm your man. I've been all TAMA for the last 15 years and the purchase of an SMX in Cranberry Fade has converted me to PEARL! Now I'm in deep!

First off, I have to figure out how to post pics. I want to get my SMX up here, I think I'm Squadron worthy. I definately want to get my Visions up also. As for cymbals, my gigging set is as follows: ZILDJIAN: 14" A-Custom Projection Bottom Hat(top), 14" Quick Beat Bottom Hat, 16" Z-Custom Med. Crash, 18" A-Custom Fast Crash, 10" A-Custom Splash, 21" Z-Mega Bell Ride, 19" A-Custom Projection Crash, (2) ZXT China-Types, 12"Wuhan China, 10"Saluda Rock Splash "stacked." I also have a separate set of cyms. I use for re-hearsal. A mix of Wuhan, K-Zil.crashes and hats, and a beautiful 21" Stagg Rock Ride with some Wuhan Chinas.

Regardless, I think there is no arguing Tamas structural quality in their products. They are tough as nails, and their kits always sound good, even in the lower levels.

Despite that, I really wany a VSX Gun Metal Sparkle.

Circus, agreed on all points. I proudly owned a Beautiful Starclassic Performer EFX, I also had an original run Starclassic lacquer Performer with the basswood mix shells from the 90's. My Supe EFX has been my gigging kit for 2+ years now. The SUPE was the reason I sold the Starclassic and got the SMX. Tama's Starcast mounting system is outstanding and cast hoops! What swayed me was the overall quality of my SMX kit. When I compared it nose to nose with my Starclassic, for me anyway, the Pearl was superior. It was really the details. Workmanship, fit and finish. I noticed the same things in the Visions as compared to my Supes. For abot an extra $2-250, I'm going to have a really nice gigging kit that I feel is a notch better than the Superstar. Good luck with the GMS, it's the color kit I played at GC that put me over!

My GC rep told me 7 to 10 days wait on my kit since I had to order it. The basic kit and the add-on were in stock at Pearl. Is the wait time I was told legit or is GC sugar-coating? Any feedback?

Well I'd give it 2 or 3 days from the day of order to the time it ships from Pearl. After that its however long it takes to get from Pearl to your GC you ordered it from.

I'd give your GC a call in like 2 days and see if they can snag a tracking number for you. That way you know they didnt drag their feet ordering the kit.

It can take up to a week for a GC order to get dispatched to Pearl. This is based on my experience. The ONLY way a PO goes through in a day or so is if the item is to be shipped Next Day Air.

so you went with the visions huh? awesome man, i know you'll enjoy it.

just out of curiosity, did you get a chance to play one before your purchase? granted with a kit like the visions or superstar, i doubt that getting one without hearing it would be a mistake, as they are both great sounding kits...i was just wondering!

are you upgrading the hoops and such?

Skywlk., as a matter of fact I did play a VSX at GC. It was a Gun Metal Sprkl. Fusion set-up. The first thing I noticed was the overall quality of the instrument. Outside of die-cast hoops, the Superstar, IMO, is inferior. I have already ordered Opti's so debating mounting systems is moot as far as I'm concerned; both are great. I have SupeHoops left over from my SMX because I switched those over to MasterCast. I will be adding the Supe Hoops immediately with G2 batters before I even play a note. I will also be rack mounting the whole works on the same rack I had the Supes on. All in all, I feel Pearl is a stronger product top to bottom. I played Tama for 15 years and can say nothing but great things but I am really excited to be playing Pearl now!

What an awesome set, it's "Strata Red" the 900 series hardware is great also. I have a set of Session SRX, and I think the visions are just as good.
Easy to set up, easy to tune-even with the pearl heads they sound great.
My son is one happy camper!
