Hey everyone, as you may know I had a thread up on the reference forums, well I didn't get the grades I needed to get them (75.6 average, I only got one 60 in one class, which was Sign Language just in case I lose my hearing y'know) but there was a huge sale going on at my local drum shop (dynamic percussion, it kicks arse!!!) HANYWAYS, my dad took me there and I showed him a nice silver sparke reference kit they had there (virgil donati had just done a clinic there, and he sold his bass drum and 4 toms to the drum shop!!!) I got to play on them though, I loved them, but my dad said "these are too expensive, I'm sorry" (it was for sale for about $2000) but one of the guys who worked there told him that he could get a VLX for a very low price, and he get a shell pack with the standard snare, 22" kick drum, 10", 12", and 16" toms, and an extra cymbal stand (I got a ZHT pro 4-piece cymbal pack with a free 16" china), and I'm going to be getting it sometime next week. So I can finally practice at both of my parents houses! I plan on getting some smooth white PS4s on my toms, and a powersonic kick drumhead, and a PSX snare drum head. I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I get it! :D

Which finish are you getting?

I believe it is ruby fade. Its the only one they had, but thats fine with me. I plan on adding a 14" floor tom, and getting some optimounts (the ones that are used on the session rack toms).

I most definitely will!!!
Only thing is all my hardware is in storage (I just bought a shell pack), so it won't be FULLY set up for another week or so.

I'm gonna probably get a 14"x6.5" or a 14"x5" scarlet fade reference snare to go with the kit once I earn enough money.

cool, that would match perfectly! thats one thing i've always liked about pearls drums; you can usually get a higher end snare with a relatively similar color to match the kit!

Thats what I was thinking, I'm going to get it off of musicians friend I think.

Go through www.massmusic.net. I think they have a deal where you can get a free $80 credit or something for their website if you buy a Reference snare/kit.

cool. mm is good about the credit that they give you, you just can use it towards your inital purchase, you have to go back and buy something else.

a reference snare would look amazing. You could do the same for black fade; heck you could even get a chestnut fade masters snare and it would look pretty damn good with the amber fade.

Man, amazing. I wouldve gotten better cymbals though, but since you wont be at your dad's full time, those will do.

I'm getting them this Sunday, and I might be taking them to my first gig! Yay. But I will have to play a fallout boy song. I don't like fallout boy.

I really hate waiting like this, the drum shop has two of the boxes, and the third one hasn't arrived yet... I do have the Drum throne all put together though and a carpet laid out in the basement! The Drum throne is a Roc-n-sock seat.

Congratulations on your new kit. I`m sure that waiting is a little difficult, but it will be worth it I`m sure.

It is, but I can stand it, what do you guys think of getting a 1-ply, or 20-ply birch master works snare drum to go with the kit? Not right when I get the kit, but when I have the money to pay for a monster like that.

sounds good to me!

too bad you don't like fob though, i'm sure any of their tunes will be done justice with the visions. enjoy the kit man!

Well the one I played wasn't that bad, I brought my export and my dad filmed me playing, the song was Sugar we're going down, I couldn't understand any of the words that I heard in it. What do you think of the snare idea?

skywalker2

the snare idea is great man! you got a clear birch kit right? it will match perfectly.

thats the beauty of the visions; replacing or at least 'expanding' your snare arsenal will allow you to keep your kit looking clean and matching.

sugar is a great song, great drums, it took me awhile to figure out the words, i can pm you with em if you need em. (its my fav. fob song so thats how i know it.) you should post the vid man!

You don't have to send me the lyrics, I'm more into progressive music. From the Seventies, ELP, Yes, Jethro Tull, all that stuff. I will try to get the videos up onto you tube.
