900 all the way. Best hardware for it's price in my opinion.

I personally feel that you should never choose the bargain at the cost of performance, but the 900 series looks pretty solid in terms of construction. I love my 1000 series stand though.

Well not all of us have extra cash laying around the house 00**

Some of us are on budgets and have no choice but to shop around instead of just going for the gold and getting the best stuff out there. 900 Hardware is the perfect middle man to me.

I haven't come across anybody that has the 900 series listed individually. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I guess it depends on what you want vs. what you "need" out of a snare stand. Personally, there is nothing wrong with my Pearl S800W snare stand. Yeah, it has a gear tilter instead of having the capability of infinite adjustibility. That's still ok with me - one notch tilted past level is virtually perfect for me and it's exact every time.

Yeah I agree. I really have never had a problem with the snare stand that came with my old Forum kit (although I can't say the same about the rest of the hardware). It's all just based on the person.

The Forum stand is just a tad lighter than what I would want - I like the stability that a heavier stand gives, but at the same time, I think that one can go overboard on the heavy factor. I think that the 900 is probably a great compromise in that it gives you the added features of higher level hardware but keeps it right around an 800 series weight, which I think is about ideal.

My current opinion of the 900 series is that if it doesn't have memory locks for each section it will turn in circles quite quickly.
Buy a Vision and substitute with 800 hardware if possible.
Until Pearls does something about the ability of thos hardware to not hold fast it needs to ber avoided at all costs.
They also need to make it right for existing owners.
Recall?

Bebop, I understand the problem you have with your hardware (I read your thread in first-aid), but are you sure the problem you have is as widespread as you say it is? I'm not trying to discredit you, but a lot of people on this forum (and the MIPA people) love the 900 series hardware. Could you be having an isolated hardware defect? I don't know if everyone on the forum had to buy memory locks with their 900s, but I doubt it. Have you checked your local drum shops/asked about other people's experiences with it? Nevertheless, sorry about the bull**** you have to go through with your hardware. I must admit, that's pretty lame.

I love my 900. It does a great job, I dont think a 1000 is necessary unless you've got a really heavy or large snare to hold up. I think the difference in price for the 800 and 900 was $5...no question, its worth it. There's many more pics in this link, an older thread when I got the stand.

I was at the store yesterday and talked with them about this problem.
Every stand in the store(cymbal stand) turned after tightening. Overtightening didn't help.
Pearl is aware of it and doing something about it at least.

Man, that sounds bad. I do see your point on Pearl needing to be more consistent with their products. Hope they resolve this.

Strange to have such a problem. I assume when you say "every stand" you mean every 900 series Pearl snare stand... In which case it looks like the problem is among that line for some reason.

i played a gig once with my friend's 1000 stand. It is sooo heavy and personally, I hate to carry that kind of weight around. And it cant really take deep snare. I prefer to carry my cheap 5000 series Gibraltar stand which good enough to support my 6.5" deep super heavy Tama bronze snare.

Not the snare or hh stands as far as I know.
Just the cymbal stands.

Yeah I gig with a 1000 series straight cymbal stand... damn it's a beast! But the rest of my stands are in mint condition and I don't want to take them gigging :p Better too heavy than too light, and I don't have much to carry anyways :)

I've had my Vision VSX kit for about 3 months. This is the first kit I have actually owned and I am really impressed with the 900 hardware and the kit in general. However, I have noticed that if I turn the snare and top part of the stand that it wants to lower it's self. Not a big issue but a another clamp to hold it in place would ease my mind. Over the years I have had on occasion to deal with hardware of far less quality. Needed duct tape and tarp straps and baling wire to make through the night.
