raspect to all.

unseenguest here. player of drum/percussion for 25 + years. well informed and familiar with all the products out there. just here for 2 quick reasons.

1 - could any owners or seller of the VISION in the clear birch please take some nice photographs of them and post here on PDF ? i have only seen a few of the clear birch, many of the red etc....

2 - i stopped by my excellent local drum shop [ www.dynamicpercussion.com ] and checked out the latest stock. played a few kits [ there are about 20 on the floor, all perfectly tuned, and about 40 snares in stock, with some very fresh Brady snares from NAMM 2007 ] anyway, i played a Vision [ very nice black fade finish ] with the Pearl provided ProTone heads.

my opinion :

wow ! :D what a nice warm punchy controlled sound. much more impressive to my ears than other kits that cost 600-1000 dollars more. although the sizes were bigger than i like the 22 kit / 22/10/12/16FT, i was very impressed. and when you figure in you get the drums and snare and nice hardware set up for a steal at $900. i really think this is the best deal out there right now.

while i am partial to a kits respective sound over any brand name, i think Pearl has a winner here. i have a 1997 Prestige Session Select kit, piano black, 20,8,10,14, and i have been happy for years with it [ although i wish the toms had a shallower depth ] i might consider purchasing some fade black shallow toms and mix the two together. then again i like the natural birch color so much....black scratches very easily, don't get me started on PIANO black !!! looks gorgeous when clean : )

so those out there who own or have played a vision, please share some words and even better pix of the clear birch and black fade for us all to check.

Jah Bless to all.

Visions sound is superior to ANYTHING in it's price range. As for the pics, there's a specific thread for it stickied

frog factor, well you might be right, i did not go to Namm 2007, but there were plenty of new brady snares in the shop here in ct, perhaps the owner met the brady's elsewhere at the time or perhaps some other arrangement was made. you may certainly be right, either way, wonderful snares. :D

some other points i forgot to focus on:

the fit and finish of the visions was very impressive, pretty much flawless. the kit i saw, black fade, was really impressive, you could still see the grain of the wood through the dark gray/black lighter part and then went subtle down through to the darker black part. very classy. the gloss lacquer was top notch. well done.

even though the kick was a 22, and i favour 20's/18's, i thought it delivered a very commanding thump, with nice punch and the correct amount of boom [ all about the balance of the three mates ! ] and this was with stock heads. i can only assume a 20 kick with an Aquarian Superkick I up front and a little Evans pad within the drum would deliver and wonderful tone and thump.

the lugs are nice, i like the way they lift off the kit and offer the little space between the mounting bolts. but, since i favor smaller size lugs, they could be a little thinner and perhaps a little smaller - they look a little big on the smaller toms, personal preference here, small matter....sound triumphs over such cosmetic details.

any owners know the exact distance between the bolts for these lugs ? just wondering for perhaps refitting lugs with something else in jah future ...you never know, i like to fiddle with things : )

what are people using for heads ? [ should they decide not to go with the supplied heads ] do you agree that using clear single ply heads on the toms would deliver a little sharper attack, considering the birch make up ?

i like the ISS mounting system, it works well enough, and as i take my toms off the kit when i am not playing, i believe this would prevent any suggestion of bending the rim as some have complained before of this system...although i really feel the ISS mounts are best for smaller toms, 8,10 and maybe 12, anything over 13 i feel might force a little to much weight on that spot on the rim where the ISS is mounted. especially if you wail away on the drum, i would never do it for 14 +...

again considering the sizes, number of drums, with snare and nice hardware pack, the vision is certainly an excellent deal. so, fellow drummers, please let me know whatcha think.

as for the picture request, yeah man i searched, this site and google, only the ebay listing for the clear birch, one moderately lit photo, looked kinda matte finish, so hence my request...i saw some other pix on mike dolbear and some from dunnetts site, namm coverage and all, but still i would like to see some more.

peace and raspect.

the problem with alot of stuff on here is that things get thinked about to much,.. the i.s.s is fine for smaller toms, no body is mounting and 18" floor tom with the i.s.s system, i dont think u need to take ur drums off the stand when nt being played,.. people seem to have this idea that u havg ur toms come back the next day ur toms are out of tune and ur rims are bent, dont think to far into it, keep ur 8-10-12 toms mounted on it and they will be fine, just dont mount ur floor toms on it

Do you know why? They probably didn't want to pay...?
