There's a new VLX black fade kit on Ebay with some good pics of the finish. It's $799 with the hardware, which is about $100 less than I've seen it elsewhere. If it had the 12-13-16 sizes I think I'd go for it. What do you guys think?

I'd say you would be better getting the 14" tom after then you'd have 10" - 12" - 14" - 16" - 22" + 14" snare

I dont like the fact that the seller set a laquer finished bass drum shell on concrete with no protection, but other than that its a good deal!

personally i like the 10 12 16 set up, i only would get a 13 if i absolutely had too. You can add on what you like later!

It is a good deal. Most stores have them for $899, however Massmusic.net gives you $100 Masscash. That's where I'm getting mine hopefully this weekend.

I've actually been thinking about getting one of these instead of a masters.

The 13" is good for a semi tone, lower than the 12"
Good idea to chuck that on the left side of your kit if you also get 14" and 16" for naturally creative orchestration.

Id say go for it man, if you like the finish.

I would refrain from buying anything from that seller at all because the bass drum has been left on concrete for the photo... dah?

That's a great deal - however I think that may be one of the uglier finishes (maybe it's just the photos)

Really not a fan of that finish, from these photos at least...

I think it depends on the lighting. I saw black fade in person and it's hard to tell there's a fade at all until you get close enough. But that shot with the flash really shows it off well.

Yeah, I definitely don't like how the eBay post shows the kit unprotected on concrete. Just because of that, I wouldn't buy it. However, the kit in itself looks great. Both the Black Fade and the Amber Fade are very pretty indeed, :)

BTW, the Black Fade would look KILLER with a white reso on the bassdrum...

Maybe the Amber Fade would, too...

Just a passing thought...

Amber fade is so sexy

Yeah, the Amber fade looks really nice. I just don't think it's "me", ya know? I want to see a Black fade VLX kit in person as the photos of it I've seen all look wildly different to me. In some there seems to be hardly any "fade" at all, in some there's quite a bit. This doesn't seem to be the case with the Ruby and Amber fades which look consistent in all the photos I've seen of 'em.

agreed. The ebay pic has a very prominent fade to it, but other pics, even from pearls website, look very solid and un-fade like!

Perhaps its just lighting. Yamaha has a stage custom with a similar fade and it always looked different depending on the light.

strata white and red fade would look quite nice with a white reso too!

If I were to get a fade finish, I'd want it to be obvious. The black fade was just too subtle in person, but still looked amazing for a mostly black kit. I think the same goes for the Reference Twilight Fade.

I don't normally go for any brown/orange fade finish but Amber Fade WOW!!!!! Gorgeous!!!
