I've been going round and around about the drums I was going to buy. I wanted a kit that going to be a work horse kit for the next couple of years. Vision seems like the way to go. Reference like construction, quality hardware, And a nice finish. They will sound good at the gig as well as In the studio.

Anyway, It's the Vision Series VLX in Amber Fade #233. I'll get pictures up and If I have time, I'll give them a review when they come In about 1 1/2 weeks.

Does that mean you haven't played them yet? I wouldn't buy a kit if you haven't played it yet. But I think you'll be satisfied with the Visions anyhow.

Good choice, after seeing 3 Vision kits in person I agree they'd be an awesome work horse kit, just like the Exports were.

I've played a set at Guitar Center. I'm still undecided on the Configuration, But will know soon. The guys calling me this evening and letting me know about the several avenue's I told him I would be interested in. Then when I'm happy with the drum/hardware choices, I'll order them.

I saw some pics of the VLX black fade finish - and it looks killer. I'm going to be coming home to the Pearl Mothership soon, I think.... I strayed away to Mapex last year and I just haven't felt right ever since.

Good choice on the Visions kit. I checked one out at the local GC the other day. Solidly built and attention to detail were some of the first words that came to mind. I'm very happy with the Stage Customs I picked up a few months ago, but if the Visions were out then, I probably would have picked one of those up.

can't wait to see them. what configuration did you choose?

12, 13 toms, 16 floor, 22 bass and 14x5.5 snare. pretty much the standard kit Pearl offers in the Vision. The other one is the fusion which I believe is 10, 12 14 mounted floor. someone correct me If I'm wrong. But anyway, mines the first configuration in Amber Fade.

yes those are the two 'standard' configs, they also offer a 10,12,16,22 config for those who like 10 inch toms but don't like 14 inch suspended's or 13 inch racks.(:))

Update. I called Guitar Center yesterday,(Wednesday) and the guy told me he was busy, and didn't get a chance to order them on Monday. (I payed for them In full Sunday afternoon) which is okay, because I don't need them untill the end of May. So he said that because I was cool about it, he Is going to order me the monted 16 floor tom and throw In the stand to mount it on! This Is good because I never can seem to get the floor tom up high enough... Bonus! He also said Pearl has the kit In stock so It shouldn't take more than a week to get here. It's starting to feel like Christmas for weldrum!!

Edit: I talked to the guy at GC, And he informed me that the 16 floor tom does not come mounted. He assured me that I was going to get taken care of. Can you say a case of sticks?

P.S. I'm a welder, so I can make the tom legs longer AND have them re-plated!

what do you mean it does not come mounted? if he orders a 16 inch mounted, you should be able to order an iss and clamp to mount it up, if it does not come with them already. (which it should, at least the iss portion.)

Um, a 16 x 16 floor tom, on an ISS (with the much-maligned hoops the Visions come with) seems like it might be a bit, er.. wiggly?

if its a mounted 16 it wont be 16 inches deep, more like 13 or 14.

Its not the most sturdy thing ever (since its not coming with legs, i would invest in an optimount), but it'll hold.

All things being equal, I believe that as long as a drum kit is past a certain point in quality, the combination of head selection and tuning can bring out an acceptable sound from just about any set of drums from any maker. I think he'll be just fine with his choice of a Pearl Vision.

It probably compares to the Pro M very well. Some may argue that the shell materials are of lesser quality than the maple in the Pro M, but the bottom line when comparing the two would be in sound, construction and hardware and I think that the Vision would probably compare very well that way.

agreed. Even if the mapex does have the 'advantage' in shell material, the solid construction of the visions and even the hardware alone are enough to make it a match...and then you have the extra beefy floor toms and bass drum.
