Nice to finally see the first new Masters. I love the colour, much darker than my Rootbeer Fade kit. If you have the chance, please post outside pics of one of the drums!

But more importantly... How does it sound?

Thanks Jonny... got this one and Ill snap some new ones when Ive got some good light.

Right now I have the Ambassador clears on the toms which is a cool (and big) change from my usual Aquarian Response 2 or Evans Hydro... trying to sell myself on them... they are growing on me but Im definitely not used to them.

They sound beautiful though. Ive had a couple of practices with my band, but it was just the other day I had a chance to really play on my own for a couple hours and work it out and get to know her... new set up and all (my old kit is 8,10,12,13,14,16 toms and I usually used a brass/nickel 14x5.5 snare and the MCX is 10,12 and 16 and Im using the 14x5 maple snare) it took a few days to get to know one another :D

You can "special order" the MCX without BB3 mount. It would be considered a "Special Order" 4-6 month delivery time. It has been confirmed by Pearl PMI Taiwan and I put that info in "This Thread" (http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/showthread.php?t=168430) back in February.

I agree that the kit looks fantastic. I've been keeping the MCX in the running until I can hear one. Been considering a Gretch Renown or New Classic as well, which may be a bit more open sounding.

I also wish that they were sold with a virgin kick. Would taking off the BB3 mount and putting on the cap be that difficult? 4-6 months is brutal. Also, Al, would ordering a 20" bass be on the same time-table. (20" basses are hard to find. I understand that they are not even an option on the Renowns. They are on the New Classics (and of course on the References, but those are a bit out of my price range).

I gotta admit, I was a bit skeptical about the overall look of the MCX's because I believe I once saw one that I thought looked like an Export, judging by the front bass drum hoop. But this one is really beautiful and it really looks like a pro level kit. Congrats on being the first to bang one!

Thanks for all the great comments everyone! I'm glad I made the jump and bought this kit. BTW, the 2007 1000 series hardware is pretty awesome too... I especially like the snare and hi hat stands... see if I can get some pics of those too.

As each day goes by I fall more in love with it. At first I wasnt sure if I was going to keep my old kit or not, it's a Peace Paragon kit, which is really amazing. The shells are about the same (Peace is Canadian Rock Maple, not sure what Maple the Masters use?) thickness, even though the PEACE is an 8 ply, the plies are much thinner. Add to that that I had to wait 9 months to get my 13x10 and 8x7 add ons. BUT... side by side and stick by stick the Masters just exudes a richer tone and power, not to mention I think the Chestnut fade just blows away the Cherry Fade (Peace calls Strawberry fields :p )....

So the MCX is a keeper. Now to sell my Paragon so I can pay for new toms (8x7 and 14X11). :D

Very Nice - I like that x-hat placement

Thanks Funk... its cool you noticed that. Its a first for me there, I usually have a tom there, in fact for my birthday my wife has ordered me an 8x7 and 14x11 to add on... But the thing is I really have found I love the x hat right out there in front like that... so Im going to need help figuring out how to place my new toms and keep the x hat around there

It is low enough and central to everything that Ive found I can really mix up some nice fills with hi hat, snare and x-hat so smooth, much more fluid than twisting left to hats... makes a huge difference.

Anyway any ideas?

Thanks for all the comments guys... it makes all that waiting worth it. Im saying that for you guys still waiting on your Masterworks, References or Masters what have you.

Hang in, it is so awesome when they are finally there I actually just find myself staring at them they are so beautiful.

More pics coming, it snowed here so I dont thinkmuch chance of outside pics yet.

I bought mine on ebay, but it was a "special auction" where Pearl dontated the kit to Music For All.org (so there was only one).

I did however order a 14x11 and 8x7 toms from Andy at Massmusic.net and he took care of me mighty fast!!! Got my drums in less than a week! MF isnt going to carry them (they seem to be pushing the Vision series), I will go with Andy for all my future Pearl drum orders.

Hope that helps.

I love having an xhat/remote hat in the position seen in my pic below. Alot of people wondered how much I downsized, well I guess this is it. When I got rid of all my Remote hats and went to an Xhat- I like a bit more. Its always there at the perfect open/closed setting :) So if you just slide it over to fit your tom in there, and kinda stack it in there it is comfy and easy to get to.

Swweeeet set up bro. Thanks for this! I love your set up.... and what an awesome array of Sabians! When I stop drooling on my key board Im going to try it out! :D

I love the xhat for the same reason. I was using a drop clutch on my main hihat, but even dropping the clutch is a pain in the ^&% when your on the fly. Plus, having the x hats and the main hat together its easy to mix up, stuff I never tried before.

Thanks again :D

move both 10 and 12 to the right as close as u can go to the x hats and put the 8 inch just above and to the left of ur snare so its just poking out there inbetween ur normal hats and ur snare might have 2 slightly move position of stuff to make it work comfortably

The finish is looks different all the time with lighting, but yes, it has red and almost purple in certain lighting (or should I say shading) and has an orange mood as well. There is also a "tobacco" brown (like DW's tobacco color) in it. It may sound weird but when Im stressed (im in my last semster of college) I just go in my studio to LOOK at it, makes me feel irie. :D

Here are a couple newer pics, one is kinda bright, the other not too bad, but the flash takes some of the deeper hues out of it.

Ill get some more pics up with some natural lighting. Of the two I just posted the second one (driver seat) is probably the most accurate... look at the 8 inch and notice the deep almost purple shade in the fade due to lighting, and then the 14' tom... more tobacco and orange... thats how it is... very subtle nuances in the different lighting.

Thanks for the comments
