how do you use reason?

hey guys, just discovered my college has on a computer software called reason, i tried to import a wave file of some scrappy recordings i found to have a mess around, but could get a sound or even import the file! :(

any tips?

That's because Reason is only a MIDI seqencer/instrument rack. You can load short sample clips into one of Reason's hardware sampler, but you can't import audio tracks into the timeline. It has no audio editing or mixing capabilities.

Reason's a pretty in depth hardware rack simulator. If I was confused about using Reason, I would think the user manual would be a great place to start. The manual is pretty simple and laid out well for it, if I remember correctly.

You should find the PDF manual under "Help" or in the Reason program folder.

if you do want a wave file imported into reason though there is a way....
open up an NN19 in reason... and right click on it (anywhere where there isnt a fader or slider or screen etc) and then click choose sample, then select your chosen wave.

Then click on the icon which is the piano (located in the top left corner on the time line thing) and they simply draw a long red line in the corresponding middle C key (C3)
this line needs to be as long as the wave will play for

middle C is C4.

anyway, Reason is probably one of my favorite programs, the power it has as far as automation is concerned is fantastic, however, the lack of ability to change tempo or time sigs becomes quite a frustration sometimes.

as for importing wavs, it probably one of the worst programs you could use for that, with the exception of sampling, or using rex files. never would i use it for that.

what reason are you using? im using reason 3.0.5 and middle C is C3

middle c, no matter what, is C4.

google search Middle C, every source states that middle C is C4, according to scientific pitch notation.

it's the C right below A440, and in accordance with a standard 88 key piano, it's C4.
