To my understanding one has a wrap and one has a laquer finish.

Roshan

vlx = laquer finish
vsx = wrap finish

The new Vision series doesnt really appeal to me. The lugs dont look very attractive IMO.
However i do like the natural finish.

hey teej, i looked at your drums...nice but i think your tom is up side down

The Vision lug design is more agressive, yet its lines denote a certain refinement. I liken them to having a stance akin to a Dodge Charger or a character reminiscent of some of the current Dodge/Chrysler line work in 2006-2007 models.

...and if you think that is over-thinking it a bit, well, that's how much we think about this stuff....but in the end, its all worth it. ;)

No green for Visions right? And also no green for Reference... Where is this world going to?!?!?!

I've already seen two Visions kits at a local shop (good job getting these out so quickly to the stores, or maybe these were the NAMM kits? Same colors....). The drums looked fantastic, with those muscular lugs and a really high-quality lacquer finish. Props to your design team!

I thought these were being manufactured in Taiwan? Why do the badges say "Made in China"?

Did the Chinese finally take back Taiwan to the motherland or has Pearl set up a new facility there?

Green seems like one of the hardest colors to get right....at least in my nearly 8 years in the drum industry. We will pay close attention to what you guys like as always, new colors will come out eventually as we refine what suits your likes best....its always a work in progress with good colors, but I feel with Vision especially, its hard to go wrong with the color line-up in this series.

Did you guys go to the SST section of the website and see the new video, it was filmed in our new China factory...there you can get a good look at how we do things, no cheezy anything, the factory is very, very nice...trust me.

Thanks Hook. That's what I was wondering. It doesn't say in the video anywhere that this is in China, so I guess we need the help of an insider like yourself to get the skinny.

I dont have any doubt that Chinese made drums are as good as or better than anywhere else; fact is, China makes about everything from PC's to power rangers 00** Why not drums? :p

SST is truly an amazing process, and Pearl has some of the best hardware in my opinion.

Thanks for the insight.

I guess the natural finish is going to be my choice,
(I'm trading my ELX for a VLX kit when it will arrive to Israel)

Hook,

My biggest complaint with the Exports was the poor quality hoops. The welds were ground down horribly and the chrome was very thin also. Really some of the worst I have ever seen.

Will the Vision have different hoops? At least from the pictures, the chrome quality seems improved. Are the metal hoops made in the China factory? Any comments?

I'm impressed with everything else in the series including the die cast bass claws (I don't think anyone has mentioned that yet).

If I go to the NAMM show would they let me play the kits?

NAMM is by invite only, and it's greatly frowned upon to have young people bashing away on kits. NAMM is a place for business, not for kids walking around bashing on kits.

Also, winter NAMM has been over for almost a week now. I don't know how you'll go to NAMM when all the exhibitors are gone back to their respective places of work.

The don't look or sound cheezy, give em a listen with Morgan Rose giving them a good pounding. They sound amazing.

Technically NAMM is a trade show for dealers but every year we see more and more consumers in attendence. Some manufacturers insist that their instuments be played in the booth but most (like us) prefer to talk in detail about the product and play it only as part of the presentation.

Hope this helps,

Looks incredible! I think the Vision series is a really nice addition to the line-up. The finishes look super nice. I also really like the new lugs and brackets. I already made an extensive post in the picture thread comparing the Vision to the ECX maple export. Anybody who wants more info should check it out.

This is exactly what I've been wanting to see from Pearl - actual footage from the factory. Thanks Hook and thanks Pearl!

The only difference between the VSX and the VLX is the finish. The shell construction is identical.

According to Al Percival, the outermost and innermost plies (the ones you can see) of the rack toms are birch, and the interior plies are basswood. For the kick drum and the floor tom, there are four interior plies of basswood sandwiched between four plies of birch. I hope that made sense.

The Vision birch/basswood plies are as follows:

Toms 6-ply 7.5mm
1 ply outer birch
4 ply inner basswood
1 ply inner birch

Bass Drum / Floor Toms 8-ply 10mm
2 ply outer birch
4 ply inner basswood
2 ply inner birch

So what sizes start with 2-4-2 ? and hanging toms are just floor toms?

I am Chinese and live in China, I am very interested in new factory. Let me know if there's a chance to visit the new factory.

Also, have you been to the new factory? Could you supply some more information of new factory?

Will all products may manufacted in China from now on?

From the U.S., Andy Strayer, Gene Okamoto have been there to see the initial Vision assembly. He showed us a video of the China factory, very high-tech. Ask Gene or send Gene a PM. He will be back from the Musikmesse Frankfurt April 5th.
