A good price for a set of LP Matador and its stand should be around $150-$175 (who knows if less. Note...I am unfamilarized with the price of the stand.....). LP Matador bongos should sell for around $100. Regarding the Matador, it is a good quality bongo but the heads are the worst kind. Not recommend them if you are going to do professional playing. Recommend you invest in some heads. (The factory heads of Matador are the worst kind). (Yeah...that is $60 more in the budget...but still cheaper than the top of the line LP Generation II which are $200 a piece.... Please note that the price of Matador's with new good heads put the Matador close to Pearl Elites which I have seen priced pretty good in around $180. Elites are top of the line and not budget like Matador. I believe the standard heads of the Elites are good. Check www.midwestpercussion.com that sells Pearl Elite bongos and they have offers on shipping) .
With new heads, the Matador will sound just like the top of the line. (For your info, Matador's current style is actually LP original bongos back in the 60s and 70s)
To "lubricate" lugs I use W-40. Is the best...Is not messy and avoids the "rusting" in the lugs. The little straw that comes with the can helps getting in some difficult spots and avoids having to dismount the whole thing.
Good luck in your purchase.... (Consider the Pearl Elite...)
Saludos!
