were going through a p.a, im not sure what kind.. and then into a laptop.
i just have a few questions
what are some good recording programs are good?
ive used audacity before.. it was impressive, but i think there could be better ..maybe.
when i record, should the output be set at a higher volume, or a lower volume, or mid volume?
any tips/suggestions are welcome..
thanks.
edit:free recording software suggestions if possible. :)

Try kristal audio engine... although it's more of a mutli track program... I would set the volume at a mid to high volume... give youself a bit of headroom for effects and the like. It's alot easyer to lower volume than it is to gain it. Unless you want alot of noise of course...

noise floors are of a much greater concern when using proper gear...However, if running an entire band through a PA, and as per the vagueness of the original poster, directly into the line in of a laptop, noise is going to be present no matter what you do. You are in fact, better off recording between -10 and -14, that headroom comes in real handy.
