Ok so i'm new to this aspect of music and i just had a few questions. I own a imac intel core duo and it came with garage band which i think is a really good and intresting program. But what i wanted to ask was what else do i need to have in order to record my drums with the program. Obviously i'll need mics, i know that much but am i needing more equipment???

A recording interface that is compatible... Presonus interfaces work with garage band, i know from experience. But thats honestly not the best program for recording. Your interface will most likely come with some software but MAKE SURE its compatible with your comp. first.

i have a mac to,if you want to record the drums with just one mic, then you'll only need a griffin imic peice and a griffin cable to connect to it.the imic looks like a mouse (except rounder) and plugs into a usb on the mac.and then after you record the drums, you can tweak em with the eq.sm57's work great.
just my input,hope it helps.

see that is ghetto.
hate to be a snob, but someone asking about recording in general shouldnt be taking advice from a noob...especially when the noob recomends a silly product.
On mac based DAWs, if you dont want to go protools, i would Highly recomend Tracktion2. very simple, will allow the use of virtually any usb, firewire, pci, or midi interface.
it also happens to be less than half the cost of Logic(not logic pro, thats like 8x), which is the next big upgrade in mac software.

yea, and it will sound like my roommate took a dump on his computer and laughed.
i reccommend at least a 2 pre firewire interface with room for expansion. also, 2 57's should start you off alright. I've done some better than decent recordings with two 57's, however it's far from ideal.
Interface:
www.echoaudio.com audiofire 4, 289 retail. great for the price
www.mackie.com satellite, 300ish i believe, plus mobility
www.presonus.com inspire or firebox, about the same
www.focusrite.com saffire series
Mics:
www.shure.com SM57, $99, everyone's first mic should be a 57
Cables:
Monster Prolink 20' (at least) $20-30
Stands:
any boom will do, i reccommend Ultimate stands. cheap but sturdy.

Perhaps he should try the new Alesis iO | 14 (http://www.alesis.com/product.php?id=95) when it comes out in a few weeks? Only $300.

he coulddddd, but they dont have the same warranty.
also, $20-$30 for 20ft is nothing. wait until you get the better monsters/mogamis/et al and it's $100+ for 20ft. unless you wire them yourself.

however, i've never been a fan of alesis' lower level products. the pre's leave something to be desired.
