Hi, i got a question.

I wanna do some recording at home, but i dont want to spend all my money on it (lol.. im 16.. need to save for drivers license etc...)

soo i was thinking...

i can buy a small mixer, 8 tracks or so, still need to find one tho..

a cheap mic set, i found a superlux set:
http://www.feedback.nl/?id=55&b=SDRKF5H3
1 bass drum mic
3 tom mics
1 snare mic
1 hi hat mic
2 overhead mics
- for 149 euros.

what do you guys think of it?

next, something to record into.
i was thinking an mp3 player with a line in record function.
this one:
http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/review3088.html
it records at 128kb/s according to the store employee I asked.

is there any other way to record into that will give a better sound quality?
i cant use the pc, because its in the living room.. and i dont wanna move it everytime i need to record :P so thats why i thought ill record it with the mp3 player and edit it on the pc.

Cheers,

Roshan

Tape recorder? 4/8-track?

...dude, anything but an mp3 player. That's just asking to be mocked by us. :p

Yeah I made a thread about using an MP3 player with voice recorder and I was told that it wouldn't work since it doesn't have a line in. Maybe the Zen Nano u showed is different.

Without a computer based software, you will not be able to record multiple tracks in multiple takes.

What you are suggesting should work, but once it's recorded, that's it - it's done. No punch ins or overdubs.

Couple that with the sub-par mics and likely sub-par mixer, and you really won't be getting very good quality at all.

For under $300, you can find a good used tape 4-track, a couple of good quality dynamic mics, stands and cords. I would reccomend you go this route instead.

I agree...

For you starting out recording, all you would need is a bass mic, and two overheads, and a snare mic.

I got a copy of acousica mixcraft to blend the music.
but my problem was like i only have 1 pc and its in the living room. my drums are in in our garden house, and i cant move the pc around everytime I want to record..

Yeah i can record with it via Line in. i thought i could record like drums, guitar, bass seperate and them mix them in Mixcraft.

Theres an 8 track(i think) board made by a company (maybe Alesis) that can be used for live sound but it has a firewire output...thats what i'm talkin 'bout
