Hey guys, i just got a Audio Technica ATM41 for free because it didnt work. I pulled her open, resoldered the xlr connection because pin 1 had come off, now it works perfectly.

My question is, does this mic have any uses in recording drums, if so what on? It seems to be a fairly good quality mic, seems bad to let it go to waste.

Thanks in advance

Maybe try it as a kick mic...maybe a secondary kick mic? It might work. Try it.

Thanks Dizzy,

How about Snare? Could it handle the SPL?

I am thinking of either putting it on the snare, or using it on the kick with a sub-kick aswell...

Thanxs again.

just a thought: Dynamic moving coil microphones generally wont be damaged by exceeding the SPL for a short period of time. so if you stick the ATM41 on your snare drum, do a test take, and find that the mic was distorting, nothing bad will happen to the mic.
it is a long period of overload that can damage it...generally a few hours or more.
