1.Yes, if your machine is midi compatable
2. and Yes, as long as you have the right cables.

1) Like Ricola said. Pads aren't midi compatible by themselves. If you plug the pad into a module, that module should be able to send midi info.

2) Well, most pads will work with most modules, to some extent. I believe that most Roland and Yamaha pads are somewhat compatible with each others modules. However, if you plug that PD-85 into a Ddrum module, you will get either the rim or pad sound, whichever is wired to the tip of the 1/4" plug. Ddrum doesn't do dual trigger or rim switch.

They are compatable to an extent.

Plugging PD85 pads into, say a yamaha DTXPLORER will work, but its a different level of responsiveness to what you would get in say a Roland TD3.

The Yamaha modules process information like dynamic sensitivity (and where applicable, rim sensitivity) differently than what the Roland modules do.

In short, itll work, but its best used with Roland modules.

Here a bit of information that may help you.....

MIDI stands for: Musical Instrument Digital Interface,

It's an industry standard communications protocol that defines each note in an electronic musical instrument or show device such as a synthesizer, precisely and concisely, allowing electronic musical instruments to exchange data in real time. MIDI does not transmit audio—it simply transmits real time digital data providing information such as the type and intensity of the musical notes.

The Pad, or Trigger, is essentially a Piezo Transducer attached to a surface that when struck by the drummer, will send a signal to a sound module or trigger to MIDI interface (or a unit that combines both). This module is what may or may not be MIDI compatible. NOT THE TRIGGER.

Hope this clears some of this up.
