for the $700, you could pick up an 8 channel interface, and have software that is far more capable.
However, from an engineering standpoint, a unit like the D888 would make you focus more on getting drums to sound good without anything but elbow grease.

I'm running on a Korg D3200.
Sweet piece of machinery if I do say so myself. Sad thing is I haven't got into using it much because my......er....."recording room" isn't finished yet. I'm building a small project studio/music lounge to record in and I don't wanna use it in my current space because that space sucks.
Everyone seems to be running a Presonus Firepod that only records 2 simultanious channels which blows. The D3200 is the complete package, all in one unit. Powerful editing and EQ controls means I won't have to rely on my computer (which isn't so hot) to do all the work.
That means my computer will be free for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3!!!! LOL!!! :D

If you are using Cubase LE (which usualy comes with the Firepod, that I know of atleast) Cubase LE can only SIMULTANIOUSLY record two tracks at once.
What I should've said (I didn't know I had to impress you) was that if I were using Cubase LE (which I'm not) I would get another program such as ProTools or cakewalk or something.
Not to mention that I've only been doing the recording thing since early this year, so I'm not a 10 year veteran of the music industry.
Get YOUR facts straight about ME, dumb ***!! :(
