Ok, so I really want to get some recording gear. I think probably by Christmas i'll have all my gear. How would this be for a starting setup for a 15 year old kid?
PreSonus Firepod (http://www.zzounds.com/item--PRSFIREPOD)
Audix Fusion 6 piece mic package (http://www.zzounds.com/item--AUDFUS6)
and then all the cables and stuff like that. I have a really nice pair of Bose headphones, so should I still get moniters? Or can I manage without?
Is there anything else I would need? Oh, and if you think theres something I should get other than the Firepod and Fusion pack, please tell me:)
Oh, and this will all be going into my Mac iBook G4.
Thanks for any help..

Looks good! You can manage with headphones, but in the long run, you want monitors

Alright well i'll start with my Bose, and then later when I have some extra cash get some good moniters.

Are you only going to be recording drums? You might wanna pick up an SM57 too, it's a mic that has tons of uses: snare, amps, vocals...lots more.
Also, you won't need cables...they're included :) Look for the Firepod on eBay too, there are some buy it now deals with tons of stuff included. Even if you didn't need the stuff it comes with for free, you can sell it and then save up for monitors.

Oh nice! Hmm, should I get the Fusion pack, or just purchase them individualy? Is eBay a trusty source to get recording gear, or should I stay away from it?
EDIT: Alright, i'll look on eBay right now for the Firepod.

dont get the fusion pack. i would say just start with individual mics. i would go with an akg d112 for bass drum - around 120 on ebay, a sm57 for snare - 60 on ebay, and a pair of overheads mxl 603's maybe im not too sure about those.
but if you're just starting this, do not get a package. learn with just a few first. and the quality of these mics are amazing, a lot better than the fusion package.

Alright thanks. I think i'll go with individual mics, because I dont need all the mics in the fusion pack. I'll look for those mics on eBay.

hmm, probably around $400 - $500 or so. Is that not enough? Should I be spending more. I take it I only need like 4 mics, snare, bass, and 2 over-heads.

I'd go with an AKG D112, a Shure SM57 or an Audix i5, and a matched pair of MXL 603's. That should run you about $450 or so if you buy brand new.

Pulsar 25' colored cables (http://www.pulsartech.net/product/P125MC) ...$28.82 after shipping. They look like decent cables, too.

Oh wait, what about software? What good, fairly cheap software should I get?

You could use the bundled Cubase LE that comes with the Firepod. That'd be a good idea b/c you'd get the hang of it, and you'd get used to Cubase then. For $75 (if you can get an open box or academic priced), Cubase SE3 looks pretty nice. A few people have told me about it positively, and it looks like a really good program...the only negative things I've heard have come from Mac users.

Hmmm. Are you morally opposed to pirating software? ie. bittorent?
Logic Express 7 is nice for macs.

hmm, i'm still sceptical about spending so much money on something I havent used before. Is there anyway I can see recording in action, or maybe a screen shot of the recording program in use?

^^^sounds like a good idea, i would also like to see this i am curious about it. since you have a Mac, you dont get viruses or spyware (which you mac users are so gung-ho about) so therefore you can download Limewire and use that to get a free version of ACID Pro 6 or some other recording software.

I dont want to waste the time and space on my computer to do that, when someone else with the program up and running with music on it could just do a screen shot.
