Im looking to throw a few pads on my rig and begin to experiment with really going into picking up some interesting sound variations which would only be possible through MIDI interface.

Anyone have any experience with using NATIVE INSTRUMENTS "BATTERY" program? "Battery 3" is coming out in October and im looking to jump on it because it will be insane!

So go ahead and post your hardware/software specs, pics, anything.

It would help me because im not sure on how to wire everything through my PC to the pads along with any other hardware i would need to make things work. I have a rough idea, but im looking for suggestions... So far i am just thinking to run everything through a alesis modual.

To run Battery you need pads, a trigger to midi converter, and some type of midi input to your computer. Pads are easy, and pretty much any drum module will work as a trigger to midi converter, though other companies sell dedicated devices, ex: Roland TM6. For a midi input to your PC you can use a recording interface or a much cheaper USB midi interface.

After that it is just software/module configuration to get it all working. Good luck.

That I get, but is there anyway to get a firewire input to my pc through as the MIDI input? So im going pads>brain>output on pc. I own the alesis modual and im not new to triggering, but its the whole issue with using the pc as the MIDI interface to store my samples which has me a little confused...

So, your Alesis module would act as the trigger to midi interface. Then you will send a midi cable to your computer. This is where you have options. It could go to a simple USB midi breakout box or through a firewire recording interface that has midi.

Examples:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-Delta-1010-PCI-Digital-Audio-System?sku=701340

Once the physical connections are made, you have to set up the software and the brain to transmit and receive the correct midi notes. Then when you hit a pad it will go pad>module>midi interface>pc>software and finally out the soundcard or midi interface.

Hope that helps
