I just saw this in the latest Music123 magazine.

Its about $200 cheaper than the Firepod, and does it do the same thing?

Does this send each (up to 8) channels on your mixer in a seperate track in your recording device?

Wow thats impressive, full 24-bit 192K performance with firewire! I would love to try it out. Nearly twice as fast as firepod.

Thats the same thing I was thinking when I saw this model.

Probably, but from my experience, Alesis preamps are far noiser than presonus preamps.

EDIT: why would you ever want/need to record at 192k anyway?

But, I wouldn't need to use their preamps if I sent the OUTs of each channel from my mixer?

Or am I wrong?

No, firepod has 8 channel inputs in total.

They accept both 1/4 and XLR connection on each channel.

What kind of mixer do you have? Do you think it's preamps are better than presonus ones?

No, I don't. But I bet there better than Alesis.

I have the Yamaha MG 16/4 mixer.

I think it's tough competition, but I think the preamps will be nowhere close to the Firepod's. I'm anxious to start seeing reviews/tests pop up comparing it to a Firepod, and seeing what people think.

I wonder what the back looks like...if it's any similar to a Firepod, it'd be nice. I still think the Firepod would be worth the extra $100.

Actually, it has 2 line ins on the back, so I think that'd make it 10...you could add another preamp so you could use 12 mics then.

Probably, yeah.

You're in a tough spot with that mixer, IMO. I think that thing is more suited toward live sound than recording. Do you use it for live sound?

If not, if I were you, I'd probably think about selling it and buying a firepod.

There are two very important things to consider, quality wise, with computer recording and they are: preamp quality, and A/D conversion quality.

If you were using the pres on your mixer, you would essentially use this Alesis box strictly as an A/D converter. And frankly, Alesis isn't known to be the best at that either.

A product like this and like the firepod combines both, and for only $500 total you get higher quality preamps and A/D conversion than either you yammie mixer or the Alesis io16.

I wonder what the back looks like...

me too, I looked hard and couldn't find a picture or diagram.

I think that for only $100 more the Firepod would be a better choice. The Firepod is a solid product, very reputable...haven't heard of anyone not liking it. AND Get this: if you order from www.skilex.com or their eBay auctions, you can get tons of free stuff with the Firepod, like an MP4 headphone amp and some other goodies. Do it BEFORE this saturday, b/c then the deals are gone.

VERY worth the price...you can get around $170-$200 worth of free stuff depending on what you get. I'd go for it.

*I was going to, but my parents suggested I spend less money until my actual studio is up. I wanted to get some equipment so I could start recording and getting the hang of it, while I still accumulate funds to treat my room, buy mics, etc. I'm going with a Phonic Helix 12 Firewire mixer for now, and will sell it to my friend and upgrade to a Firepod and some other things when my "studio" is ready to roll.*

EDIT: Plus the Firepod looks so damn cool.
