Hey guys, i was just wondering what snare Chad Smith uses on the Under the Bridge song. I love the sound of the rimshots :)

For the Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik album...I believe he used a 5x14" Black Beauty with CS Black Dot heads.

believe it or not, he doesn't use his signature snare.

yeah ive heard he rarely plays it and says he doesnt play it live

That was back in 1990-1991, so it wasn't his signature one, that's for sure.

believe it or not, he doesn't use his signature snare.
he never touches it, every time i have seen him he is using a black beauty.

Actually, that's a Pearl Sensitone Classic 2 (Black Brass). Looks exactly like a black beauty, but it isn't.

I'm POSITIVE that I've read or heard somewhere that he used his sig snare for a short time. I'll see if I can find it somewhere.

It's different using your sig snare when doing a clinic (like in that pic) 'cause it's most often the drum store (or whoever is arranging the clinic) who assembles the kit, and of course they pick his sig snare for that.

oh i'm completely aware of that. it's just to prove that he DOES use it. he may not prefer it, but it's not like he's never touched his own snare.
