i have a set of lugwigs that was left to me. i believe my dad purchased them in 1975 and they were used at the time. the kit consist of 9 pieces including the snare. 24" bass, 10", 12", 13", 14", 15", 16" rack toms, and 18" floor. all rack toms came with no bottom heads. the snare was lost in a fire along with a vintage set of slingerlands. however the snare that belonged to the slingerland set i still have. the first 2 pictures are of the snare. i don't know much about it. the last few pictures are of the lugwig's 10" rack tom and 15" rack tom. i use the set for practice so they are at my practice location and i don't have pictures other pictures yet. from what i heard about the drums, they were a concert drum because they had no bottom heads. don't know.

Those are nice. The snare looks like a Krupa, but I'm not sure..

They were definatly made in the late 70's or early 80's (im not an expert on specific dates, but that badge was used through most of the 70's) interestingly although the drums only have one head, they seem to have bearing edges cut for a bottom head, it would cost very little to add a resonant head and have a great sounding kit.

eBay !

if no joy on there, im sure there are many many dealers in the states who specialise in ludwig. also not forgetting, Ludwig is still agoing concern, so hardware, lugs etc etc should be readily available.

still no joy ? then get in touch with a top guy in england called Len Howe, his website is www.classicdrums.com he is without question the ludwig king of the UK.

good luck in getting those drums up to scratch.

yeah, I think they lost the pointy edge on the parallelogram around '78.
'75 sounds about dead on.

Here’s the animal you’re looking for...
I bought it in about ‘76 so it should be the right model.

This is just for your reference, please no PM’s about selling.

I am 100% sure you can find one on the ‘Bay sooner or later.

Good luck,

-Mr. B.

I had a White Cortex Ludwig kit in the '80s. One of my two biggest musical gear regrets is selling it.

In 1969 at approximately serial number 750,000 the ludwig badges were changed from the keystone emblem to the badges that are on your drums. Try running a search engine on "google" - Ludwig serial numbers, and you should pop up a site that has Ludwig information.

i know an old 6.5 x 14 slingerland 'supersensitive' model snare with the same badge you have. i was told that badge is from the 60's.

It's hard to tell if the Slingerland badge is black/brass or black/silver. If it's black/brass, it's 1964-70. If black/silver, then it's 1970-on. For serial number dating, you would need the help of Dr. CJW.

Ludwig info can be had at: Ludwig Drummer (http://www.ludwigdrummer.com).

Ludwig parts are readily available on eBay, from Jack Lawton, or Todd Trent at Ontario Music (http://www.ontario-music.com/drums.html).

Those were called "Melodic toms"...and they used ludwigs mini lugs. I have an early 70's octo-plus that used the melodic toms and had the bearing edge on the bottom. Back in '81 I ordered the castings for the bottoms and drilled away.

Heres a pic.

I did the 10" through 16".....I had to off set the 10 due to the shallow depth.

That double clip tom stand is the same one that we had in high school for the congas and bongos. Also, the toms on our mis-matched drum kit were Premier toms with the screwdriver tuning rods. Now that I look back at it 3 years ago, we had a lot of vintage gear at that school that got treated horribly.

The 6 and 8 as well as the 15 and 16 inch toms on the above pic are mounted on a clip mount. In fact all of those toms were originally clip mounts. I went to the spur-lok for more versatility.
