Does anyone know anything about Raven drums? I picked up a bass drum and a snare for $2 from a garage sale, they've very old 60s or 70s not very good condition. The shells are very thin, and i have no idea what the wood is. There is a nice gold sparkle wrap on the drums though.
The snare is 5x14 and the bass looks like 16x18

I'll try to get pics this week, the bass head is 200 years old but the snare is very resonant, even with a new coated emperor x on it.

you would be lucky to buy a box for 2 bucks. plus the box you bought comes with a wrap. you could always discard the shells and use the wrap to wrap another set of drums or something. good luck

I was thinking of building some snares, or a tom out of the bass drum. It is a nice wrap, and the hardware is always a bonus.

So....BIG NEWS. I finally had those drums looked at and snare and bass drum are 5 ply birch. For $2!!!!! It's pretty sweet. The snare sounds awesome, it has a really nice crack. Although, i need to buy a new hoop because the bottom one doesn't have holes for the snare ties, ah well.

Found a 5 pc Raven kit here in Ontario at a pawn shop. The best thing on them is the wrap. I was wondering who made these. The guy says he got them from an old lady, it belonged to her husband. Get this...the store owner says he checked their value on the net and he tagged them at... $250 ! OMFG !!

Sorry to be late here, but I just don't get around much anymore (there's a song in there somewhere ;) ). Anyway, at the local music store here I bought a 4-piece champagne sparkle Raven kit for $150. Thanks to eBay, the price of everything went up beyond reason. But the Raven kit I bought was clean, had the wrap in surprisingly good shape, and sound fine. I'll wager it's another Pearl stencil line, so be happy. I have seen 'good' Raven drums and 'bad' Raven drums, if that makes any sense. The 'bad' Raven drums were cheap Luan and had the reinforcing ring. The 'good' Raven drums were thin birch, and did not have the reinforcing ring. I take my kit out and get a compliment here and there. It's all worth the effort when other drummers that I respect and admire ask if I can find them a similar kit to take to jam sessions and the like.
