I know that the World series kits were around in the early 90's and they are not vintage but I thought that maybe sme one can help answer my question. I am thinking about buying a wolrd series Drum kit and I was wondering if any one had some info about the kits?

The World Series was introduced in 1986. There were two versions: one featured a lacquer finish (WLX), the other was covered (WX). Both featured 8 ply shells (from the inside out they were): 2 plies Linden, 5 plies mahogany, and 1 ply birch.
In 1991, the World Series became the SLX Prestige Session Elite (7 ply shells: birch outside, mahogany in the middle, lamin inside), however a jazz series, the Prestige Session Jazz retained the WLX designation.
In 1994, the SLX became the SPX Prestige Session and featured the same shells as the SLX.
In 1997, the SPX became the SRX Prestige Session Select and featured 7 ply shells: maple inside and outside, mahogany in the middle.
In 2001, the SRX became the SRX Session Custom featuring 6ply 100% maple shells.
I had a World Series set in 98 and liked them alot..
Hope that helps....Carl

I can't tell you much about them, except that I played a World Series hired kit last month on a couple of gigs (kit supplied by the theatre we were working in), and they sounded just great.

I purchased a used 7 piece World Series (WX) kit back in '98 and still use it to this day. It's been fantastic, the sound is rich and even on every tom and the bass drum sounds deadly, has alot of punch. I would definitely reccomend picking it up as long as it's in good shape, considering how old it probably is.
I have a question for Carl, seeing as he knows alot about this kit. Do you know how much my kit would be worth today? It's in near mint condition:
1 x 10" Tom
1 x 12" Tom
1 x 13" Tom
1 x 14" Tom
1 x 16" Floor Tom
1 x 22" Kick
I'm curious because I'm thinking of going to a newer kit, possibly a Masters series. I appreciate any input you can give me on the subject.
