YEAH! Anything drum related for $55 is usually a good deal. Especially if it consists of actual drums (shells)

That is a REALLY good deal. That cannister throne by itself may be worth $300-500. Your drums may be older than 50s, but early 60s may be right based on the floor tom leg brackets.

Check the badges. If they say Chicago, then they are 1960 or before. Slingerland moved to Niles in 1960.

Do the badges have serial numbers? If they don't then they are pre 1963.

Also, that snare drum is VERRRRRY interesting. You have a clamshell strainer there (looks like it has the ubiquitous broken handle, unless that's the butt side). Look inside the shell. If it has a maple interior rather than dark mahogany, count the plies in the shell. If it's just one band of maple, you have really scored with a post-55 Radio King. Even if it's a 3-ply shell you still have a nice snare.

looks like a good "clean up - resell on ebay" kit ;)

i bought 2 niles badge kits for 50 bucks a piece... (from 2 totally different people with a years difference!!!)

nice profit on ebay

now im thinking of fixing them up and keeping them but will this devalue them? i was gonna take apart the seat and put more padding in and re cover it and cover all the drums will this lower their value?

Yes, to a collector, re-covering will virtually destroy the vintage value. Cleaning is not as big an issue, but you would have to be careful as to what you do.

DO NOT use steel wool on the plated parts. They may initially look better, but will have little scratches that will eventually make the chrome or nickel plating hazy. If you are going to clean, use a mild detergent and a plastic scrubber, after taking the parts off the shells. Then, you can polish the chrome or nickel. For those drums, I would suggest you use either Simichrome or Flitz.

If the wrap is not lifting (and those old Slingerlands usually don't lift), then just a mild cleaning should be enough. Meguiar's or Novus plastic polish will both protect it and shine it up. The wrap turns yellow from exposure to light, and there's virtually nothing you can do about it. Leave it.

yea dude, if the wrap is original don't mess with it....

where are you in PA? how did i miss this deal ;)?!??!

but i would say find out the approx. worth by seeing other almost identical kits go on ebay...

do you have a kit now? or just want another? in my house i had trouble fitting one kit let alone 2 set up...

i ended up selling on ebay and making some hard cash... and thats always nice

Yes i already have a kit just thought it would be cool to fix up and im not to far from harrisburgbtw. also thats the other strange thing is it looks all original but its painted..not wrapped could it be the original paint or did some one fix this up years and years ago

If it's painted in Duco lacquer, then leave that alone. It certainly could be original. I would then suggest you use Behlen's OZ Creme Polish on the lacquer.

If you make one, it wouldn't really be "vintage" would it? Unless you waited like 40 years for it to turn vintage. :)

You're kidding, right?

To be more precise, you can PAY Ned to have it appraised.
