Bass isn't easy is you're good... Bass, like drums, like anything is only as easy as you make it.

Try giving one of Victor Wooten's/Jaco Pastorius' riffs a whirl, then tell me bass is easy.

I thought nelly's drummer was a machine, like so many other rap artists. I stretch far and wide when I use the term "artist". I could be nelly's drummer with one hand, while asleep. Now, watch a Mike Portnoy DVD and then tell me who's wack. Ya wanker.

Yeah, I second that. The only thing on the "drum set" that ever changes in rap is the hi-hat.... Wanker :D

Ya, I quit playin for like almost a year, when I first started, after seein Neil Peart at a RUSH show way back in 86'. I actually sold my old '62 Ludwigs I had @ the time(stupid me)and figured that I'll never play like that!!!...Well, cuz this musical bug that bit me when I was 8 would not leave me alone, after a year, I went and told myself that I WILL play like Neil someday.......Bought some more drumz, and after almost 20 years, haven't given it up yet....
Got 2 albums under my belt, opened up for the likes of Pantera, GWAR, and L.A Guns and even did 2 headlining tours(1 w/ GWAR in 96)........SO DON'T QUIT!!!......you will get your just rewards....

I haven't seen the Steve Smith DVD, but....if you want to see a little real scary hi-hat stuff, go to www.drummerworld.com - there are a big bunch of video clips on that site, and the one in question features one Buddy Rich. The video clip is
buddyrichhihathi.mov
He does a solo round the rims, hi-hat and cymbals. Enjoy.
