Hi Glen, I know you endorse Pearl products but I would really like to know how Pearl Congas, Bongos and Timbales compare to the top names in percussion like LP,Toca,Meinl to name a few? Also I am planning to buy a full line of percussion one day in the near future and have no real experience in knowing what the very best sound should be. I have questions like if fiberglass produces more volume can you cut some of that volume and add some warmth by using natural heads on fiberglass? Can you add volume to a wood conga with synthetic heads? I play a Masters MHX kit and love it but now am interested in adding percussion as well. I only buy top of the line equipment. Most of my playing is live but I could use them in the studio one day as well. Would you give me you honest opinions and suggestions on buying? Thanks in advance, Rich.

Rich,

Of course I'm partial to Pearl, but all the other brands make great gear as well. If you don't have our catalog, you can download it from our website which goes into greater detail of our product. Players like Marc Quinones, Richie Flores, Bobby Allende, Horacio Hernandez, and myself play Pearl beacuse we feel stongly about the product and the name behind it.

Fiber vs. Wood - check out this link on the forum: http://66.40.220.17/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7948

As far as synthetic skins - I always use Remo NuSkyns on all my hand drums. They stay in tune, easier on the hands, you don't have to de-tune after a performance. I use natural skins in the studio always.

I hope this helps...

Thanks,

Glen
