saw the new amber fade last night....

The drum shop I spend way to much time and money at received one of the new amber fade kits yesterday. We stood back and looked at it for quite a while. I think my previous posts show that I am truly a die hard Pearl guy in every way, but I gotta say this color just didn't do it for me, or any of the people at the shop. The fade is very abrubt - almost spray can-ish - its nowhere near as smooth as the other fades carried in the line. It was set up next to a now discontinued burgandy mist kit - it made the burgandy kit look like a Masters. The color combination, combined with the unfinished insides of the bass drum hoops really made it look low end in my opinion. My special edition vintage fade ELX also has a much greater/interesting visible wood grain that this amber fade kit. The new kit didn't not show much of this at all - maybe the color just masks it.
As we all know, opinions are like *******s; everyone has one and they all stink. Just thought I would throw out what I thought and the thoughts of the others that were at the shop.

Don't suppose anyones seen an elx ruby fade kit for real? - I've ordered one but only seen pictures on the internet - opinions please.

yo calumc, congratulations on the purchase. the ruby fade is in a word, hot!!!!!!!!!. i love it. it is on of the sexiest things i have ever seen. the autumn fade was there too. my eye first spotted the autumn fade. and i was freakin impressed. and then i saw the ruby fade. it looked so much better in real life. the pictures mess it up cuz it is really a great color. both the colors are beautiful. its impossible to pick.

Thanks, I feel very gladly reassured on my choice of colour! I wouldn't want to get it wrong - I'm only 16 so this is a big purchase for me!

Hey Thumper232 your kit is pretty similar in colour to the new autumn vade (its vintage fade isn't it) My ELX custom kit is autumn fade and i love it. Better than the ruby fade i think.

I thought they would be close, but they are vastly different. This new amber fade kit starts almost yellow and fades to a dark brown. There is very little grain showing through the finish and the fade was really abrubt. The kit I have is the same as the vintage fade ( I have added SRX toms to my kit and they match perfectly). Judging from the the ruby fade picture it looks to be a better fade. Maybe it's simply due to it using darker colors (the red) vs having to fade from yellow to brown.
I dont know....

But again - this is all just my opinion. Thats why there is chocolate and vanilla....
