I really like the looks of this kit in the catalog/website but none of the shops around here have a kit for me to see in person. I would like to see as many of your photos as possible of this kit before I order it to ensure they are what I want.

Thanks,
Nazz

Mine is a burnish, but it's burnt amber none the less:

Sorry, don't know how to put more than one on at a time:

BTW, the snare drum is a lacquer burnt amber, so it'll give you a good comparison.

i have a burnt amber kit... by far the most beautiful color you could get on a kit... it was soooo worth the extra time because of "special ordering". ill try to have pics by next week. later.

He may be referring to the "left handed people are in their right mind" slogan I have used for years.

Yes. There are two overheads over the set for the cymbals. But actually, I'm starting to just mic the toms, bass, and snare and just having the cymbals bleed into those mics. Since my set is so small and the drums are so close together, that works really well. That way the cymbals act more like accents and don't drown out the other drums.

That burnished burnt amber looks like the Vintage natural finish on my Maple custom absolute, and i agree that it is one of the nicest colours.

Gosh, you know, I really have no idea. My dad does some music stuff, so he already had the studio mics before I even became interested in drumming. The other mics I got for Christmas about 4 years ago. I think those are Samson G11 or something like that. You might be able to look up the price online. I'm using a little Radio Shack condenser mic for the bass drum. That was pretty cheap.

Oh, and yes. I only use them for recording. :)

yea cause my band and i want to start recording stuff so im trying to get all the info i can. what we are thinking of doing is getting a thing with 4 inputs. So my drums would only get one mic. and i want more u know so any ideas?

Well, I actually have 2 mixers. One is an 8 input mixer, a Mackie I believe, and the other one is a Roland VS-880 with 8 channels, but just 4 inputs. So what I've done in the past is completely miced my set, overheads and everything (that's 6 channels), and run it into the Mackie. There I can tweak the individual channels, do panning, and do some EQ. Then I can run either one line to the Roland and have it come in on one channel for mono, or two for stereo. That way it only comes in on one or two tracks, and it doesn't take up as much harddisk space.

Hope that wasn't too confusing! :)

I really like that color. Is it a wrap, or a laquer?

All I know is that it's burnish. Someone else will have to tell ya whether it's wrap or lacquer. Actually, I guess being burnish it wouldn't be lacquer...

Burnish is not a wrap. It is simply a different type of clearcoating put over the same stain that Pearl uses as a base under their highly-polished, glossy "lacquer" finishes (no-one actually uses real lacquer anymore, its usually polyeurathane or other polymer). So I guess you could say that Burnish is simply another word for a Satin finish.

Thank you. I really like the color. Now that it is more of a polyurethane, or other polymer, would it be more durable than an actual laquer stain?

Do you know if the Dusk Blue is a wrap or "laquer"? It looks like a wrap.

Stain is what gives the drum its colour; lacquer (now polyurethane) is the clear coating that used to be used to give it that deep, rich glossy finish that goes on top of the stain. And yes, it is much more durable than most lacquer finishes. That is why Pearl, like many companies don't use real lacquer on drums anymore. Most of us just refer to "stained/painted" finishes as a lacquer finish because its simpler :)

Dusk Blue is NOT a wrap. Currently, the only wrapped Pearl drums you can get are in the Export EX series or the Masters MSX.
